Question about Ph in Promix BX..
I read that using vinegar or say baking soda to lower or raise the ph only works for a temporary amount of time and then it starts to go back to its original PH.

So I will be lowering my waters ph by adding vinegar till I reeach about 5.8 that way over time the PH will slowly go up until the soil buffers it back to 7.0..

Is this true? Anyone have any tips for me about this??

If you wanna buffer your soil I suggest adding dolomite lime. It keeps your range right around 7 but you have to add it to your soil about 3 weeks before use to give it time to activate. As far as I know baking soda and vinegar are only temporary like you said

I should have mentioned that there is already lime in that soil so if you add more just do a small amount.

I grow exclusively in Pro Mix. It has sufficient lime in the mix and no more is needed unless you're amending it with castings, guano, manure, etc. Yes, if you feed at a lower pH the pH will start to rise back up as the soil dries out but repeated feedings at a lower pH will eventually bring the soil pH down. Pro Mix is usually right at 6.9 - 7 right out of the bag. I usually feed at 6. Almost immediately the soil pH will drop then climb back up to around 6.8. I've got some seedlings that are 2 weeks old today. I've feed them 3 times so far and spot checked the soil pH today. It's already down to 6.6. Once I see it get down to around 6.4, then I adjust my feeds up to 6.4 and keep them at that level through out the rest of the grow.

Thanks Muddy that was exactly what i was looking for. Maine thatnks for the help i think the ph will stay in the good range for enough time for the roots to soak up all the good stuff :peace:

I have learned from the best. I was going to say almost exactly what Muddy said, word for word in some places. :D Love that guy. I do the EXACT same thing with my Promix. Success? Yessireebob. D

Just watch you don't let it go all the way dry or the ph goes up quick,i found that out the hard way!

I think that depends on strain too... But don't chance it. Use the weight method to know when to water. Get a feel for how heavy the pot is with dry mix and how heavy when fully watered. Then you can tell when it is almost dry, then you water. Underwater is better than over water IMO.:D :toke: :bong:
