Am switching from compost to coco and I thought I'd start testing and adjusting soil nutes with the plants I'm already growing, so that when I'm on it by the time I start using coco.
Could anyone suggest a relatively easy to use testing pen and quantities of pH up/down I'm likely to use. I've ph'd nothing since chemistry many years ago. Cheers.

Most pens I think are easy to use. Maybe get one with calibration button? You'll need calibration solution for it as well. As far as PHing I was told to start with ml at a time. Also make sure you mix it up good and wait at least 30 minutes before checking and adding more.

whats your budget you can buy cheap or go with a decent one straight off bluelab is a great brand also essential

its all about your budget bro buy cheap your going to end up buying twice with the likes of the yellow ones with the little screw-in the back bluelab do great meters also Hanna are both solid brands

I remember bluelab, my friend had a truncheon if I remember. It's a bit more committing buying decent kit - I'll have to ask, but I think I'll try something decent. Will just google them now.

You should get a soil type probe as well as a pen. Don't waste money on a cheap one. I lost a 6 plant crop due to a bad PH pen. I do not sell but the street value of the crop would have been >$3K vs a couple of hundred dollars for reliable tools. That does not include the lost time, seeds nutrients and electricity!

The Accurate 8 Soil probe is an inexpensive soil probe that works but if you get a Blue Lab Combo meter you can attach different style PH probes for different media. If you get a Truncheon it runs in a different scale from most peeps. In the USA Hanna is the most popular scale. Everywhere else in the world they use the EC scale. Be sure to get an EC meter and not an inexpensive TDS meter.

I run Blue Lab meters.

This is a conversion chart for the different scales.

Crap they are dear! Its either a new lamp or a pH meter! I have got some time as I remove plants from my present grow I'll put in single plants every 17day to go perpetual in my little tent. I can't believe how much distilled water is. Hopefully my tap water's stable and its not long before I can mix fertilizers with out pH ing all the time.

Here's the situation with PH meters.
You're going to get what you pay for.
The inexpensive ones on Amazon are ok and will last a month.
At the end of the month , the plants look sad because the PH value was only off by 2.5
Or is that -2.5...
So , don't be cheap about this if you plan to grow seriously.
A decent meter will cost you about $35 US.
It will pay for itself in the first grow.
Which is sweet , right!
Regardless of the meter.
The important thing is to calibrate it regularly.
