I started an outdoor grow for a friend over the past few weeks. Nothing special, some Indica bagseed. I used 1 gal. root pouches that I got free a while ago from Nirvana on a weekend whopper deal ... About a week ago I planted the pots outside and the weather has been fluctuating between perfect and cold and stormy ... by leaving the plants in the root pouches and planting everything there was zero transplant shock ... with the change in the weather I know at least one would have died and they would all have been seriously setback ... I know I'll be using them or something like them in the future. I left the bottoms in because I hope to limit the height of these plants but I think if I were using them for autos I would cut the bottom out to allow the tap root to continue to grow ...
:bong:

They are supposed to eliminate plants becoming root bound ... once planted in the ground the roots are supposed to grow through the fabric into the ground ...

What if you weren't planting into the ground? I guess it would still work?

Thanks Chester. I'm wondering if you don't plant this into the ground do you have to place them onto something

To work properly I would say that you should have a small air space underneath ... not sure it would make much of a difference. I'm not that sold on the root pouch . I think an airpot made from a more porous fabric would work better both above and below ground.

Thanks! I'm sure these would work better than regular pots
There is a hydro store selling these for the same price as regular pots

I used to use root pouches and they work well.

they air-prune roots just like smart pots. to get the best out of them you will need to put them on a platform with holes in it so air can flow underneath and prune the roots down there.

I use airpots now, there is not that much difference in results. you do have a trade off though, root pouches are easier to water but require a platform and air-pots have the platform built in to the pot but are more work to water and drop more mess out of the bottom.

either way they are both much better than your traditional plastic pot
