New Grower Question about auto photo-period length/timing

...maybe run the flouros for the first 4-5 weeks, then blast the flowers with HPS for the last 5-6 weeks. Might get better penetration to the lower branches during flower and thus, more nugs.

That's exactly what I think I'll do, run the floros for the first month, then switch to the HPS...

I used to use this room as a veg room, and used to grow outdoors, until someone started trespassing onto my property and stealing my grows.

I'm a medical patient, so growing was difficult/painful as it was, so to get stolen from by some neighborhood kids really broke my spirits.

I happened to come across this forum and I'm hoping that auto strains might be the answer for me; I should be able to just use my existing veg room for veg & flowering (no need to go outdoors where they'll get stolen), and the plants are much smaller and therefore lighter and easier to work with. I'm hoping that I can find as forgiving a strain as possible so that I won't have too many obstacles for my first round.

I probably sound ridiculous counting the pennies on my electrical bill, but after getting my last harvest stolen, and needing to spend now what will probably be quite a bit of cash on seeds from what I can see, I want to make sure I do whatever I can to make sure this first yield doesn't disappoint or I might not have the heart (or physical ability) to keep trying.

For strain I'm thinking Lowlife Hindu Kush, WOS Afghan Kush Ryder, MDanzig's Sour60, DNA's 60 Day Wonder or 60 day Lemon, or Delicious' La Diva. This is because these are mentioned as being easy to grow/forgiving in the descriptions at attitude seedbank. If anyone has further suggestions or can help me narrow it down - I'd love to hear it.

Thanks again to everyone who's giving me feedback. I really appreciate it!

20/4 or 18/6 is what I've seen seed company/breeders recommend depending on the strain. Check with them.

that link should help you understand autos a lil better... any light cycle works... below 18/6 has a tendency to reduce yields a bit... but it'll still work ok... they wont revert to veg on you... thats the beauty of autos.

It's not silly to count KW's... they are more expensive every year.. might as well get efficient as possible.. :smokeit:
many of us are counting our pennies to survive.. :smokeit:

I like your seed list. I grew the 60 Day Wonder. Took about 95 days and was not remarkable.
If you've got about 10 weeks, consider the AutoMazar, Spirit 51 or MI5. High yielding easy growers with positive smoke reports on this site.

Check out any of the strain/smoke reports to see what other growers got out of the genetics, before you place you order.

The strain Ultra Lemon Haze calls for 12-16 hours light on the best for it. It's a little long to finish..~100 days. Something to think about ya know?

If you need 12/12..why not get a strain that grows best at that light schedule? :) It's also not a tiny little short plant..so keep that in mind too.

Forgive me if this has been answered, I've tried searching and come up with nothing:

I'm guessing auto's can be grown 12/12 all the way through, is this correct? Is it more beneficial to go 20/4 then cut it down to 12/12 after a month, or after signs of sex, or is 20/4 better for autos throughout their lifespan.

I'd like to use my 600w HPS and try an indoor auto grow, but I don't know if I could afford running it 20/4 for for months on end, which is why I ask.

Also, if they auto flower, does that mean they can be exposed to light during the dark cycle (from me going in the room, or if the door is just left open, etc.).

My Questions in short: Just wondering if anyone had any info or experience regarding the optimal photo-period length/timing for autos, and if auto flowers are also susceptible to being stressed by exposure to light in the 'dark' period.
Ive always used 18/6 but people use either 18/6 - 20/4- 24/0 in some cases you can use between 12-16hrs light depending on the strain

thats correct the ULH grows best with between 12 and 16hrs of light per day and is also one of my next grows Outside i want to see if it will grow or die over the next few months :D

From what I read, ULH likes 16/8 in veg and 12/12 in flower. So basically, its a photo and not an auto. They get pretty big too..3-4 feet people are reporting. Would like to know what kind of yield they are getting.

Mohan Ram auto from sweet seeds is a piss easy strain to grow with good yields and nice smoke. I pulled 68g off one and I did a pretty bad job of it, though I did lst. I strongly advise lst'ing if you want to maximise yield per plant/seed, but if tending to the plants like that is physically difficult for you then perhaps not. I have no idea about how it is as a medical strain, but it is crossed with S.A.D auto, which I have heard medical patients claim is the best strain they've tried. I hope no one thinks I'm spamming as this is the 2nd time I've recommended it on this forum in a couple of hours lol.

All the best bro and I feel for you. If someone stole my plants I would despair and I'm not even a patient. No one thinks any less of you for counting the pennies, that's just good sense and these are rough times for many.

Regarding light cycle, I'm currently running 17/7 and 24/0 on my last grow. 24/0 was fine, but smell was an issue, but that may well be completely unrelated. I now run 17/7 a) because I think plants probably do benefit from some dark b)my grow is in my (and my girlfriend's) bedroom and we want some more sleep this time.

Very best wishes

TC
