So this years outdoor season is nearly upon us, got my seeds for xmas as usual and im aching to germinate them. Some super autos are my plaything for this year and was wondering if theres any special tips or tricks to get the best out of them at this more northern latitude.

So the plan is to germinate them in may indoors for 3 or 4 weeks then out, this gives me a finishing time of end of august (last year had mould issues with thinkdiffs in sept so want all autos down by sept). Im going to start them off in 8 litre buckets and tier them once they go out to avoid transplanting(this will take up all my grow space for a month which isnt great !) may have to start 2 off in each bucket and pull one from each just so im guaranteed 2 superautos so may have some spare plants to use and abuse in the name of superauto canna science!
Any ideas, thoughts or even piss taking are generally encouraged !

Sounds good, mate. Can't give you any advice coz I haven't done it yet, but I'm planning some SCH outside this year too, so I'll be following your grow with interest? When are you going to sprout the seeds indoors?

I don't have anywhere indoors to start mine off so I'm going to try planting them in their final places under small cloches after sprouting in paper towels.

Yeah been looking at Cloches for my fresian dew grow, should help a little against insect too maybe ? Ive seen some outdoor grows where theyve just planted the seed and gone back in 70 days and the auto has done its work, not great yields but it did work and they started them in june (greenomatics GH i think) I have some automazar seeds which may well get the "cloche" treatment too!
Have moved house this winter and havent got the bay windows or a grow box to use anymore and i still have to sweet talk 2 house mates into letting me grow inside !!! Will start these 1st week of may and keep them in till june, may have to lst a little to keep the sizes down till they go out, my biggets worry is the average temps will increase the life span and they wont finish in time ?
But the idea of a 6 foot auto is too good not too have a pop at !

Sounds like a good plan. When you transplant are you going into the ground or into bigger pots? If pots, I'd suggest at least 10 gallon (about 40 liters). I did a SCH outdoor grow 2 years ago in 10 gallon pots. The plants got to about 6' and averaged 4.5 oz per plant. No mold issues but I'm in a hot, dry climate in the summer. Spider mites also left them alone. They were hitting other nearby plants but didn't bother the SCH.

Thanx for stopping by everbody
Got a nice piece of drainage pipe for one and a builders rubble bucket for another, should hold around 40 litrs each. Using cheap as chips compost for the fresians but i can get some john innes compost, anyone recommend a john innes compost ?

I would ask about the compost in the 'General AF Discussion' forum if you don't get a hit on your query. It is busier and your likely to run into a Welsh neighbor familiar with John Innes.

Cant help you with the compost but Im sure in along for the ride! :D

Ok so ive just put 2 of each into soak, ive got my little grow space going and ive found 2 - 10 litre pots that fit into myspace ! So im gonna put 2 plants into each pot - i was thinking of pulling the weakest plant from each pot because some people say it brings on hermying ? anyone wanting to fill me in on that please do. Would like to just grow them out and lst them away from each other - ive got big 40 litre pots to tier them into so will root space be a problem ? Im also going to saw the 10 litre pots in half horizontally and tape them back up so when it comes to tiering i shouldnt disturb the roots too much.

Sounds like a well though out plan. Hermies come about due to either stress or genetic anomalies. The genetic ones come on right out of the chute. The stressed hermies come along somewhat later when conditions collide and the plant reverts to its survival mechanism (reproduce at all cost).
40 litre is fine. Keep us posted.

Outdoors they Need a Lot of Time....between 110-150 days...totale normal, but i Hope Urs will Hurry :)
