Grow Mediums simple hempy question

Do you guys put a cover over your hempy containers with a hole cut out in the center.
Like in dwc to cover the rototon.
To keep the light out and algea from growing
Or is it better to let the top open for air circulation in a straight perlite grow .
Always grown dwc but now trying a simple hempy bucket.

The algae growth does not affect growth so no worries. However a cover would not hurt either.

ok thanks,wasnt sure about air flow either.
I just started one,first leaves out.
found a red plastic plate that fits almost perfect in the bucket.
I actually put my seed in a rapid rooter,put that in a net pot filled with rototon,then placed that in perlite.
probably wasn't nessesary but thought it a good idea.

a couple pics of my simple hempy.
I just cant grow a big plant hempy style like I can dwc.
ive got up to a lb. a plant in dwc,but hempy- this is my biggest.
she's not tall but the buds are really getting fat,so that's a good thing.

Glad to see someone else is doing hempy as well. I'm doing a 2l hempy SOG. My first round is about to finish up but it'll be a while till I have clones for the next one sadly because I can't dial down my aeroponics cloner.

well ive been bouncing back and forth.
I got a dwc going now,in about a month i'll be starting another hempy.
I'm getting old with a lot of health problems and doing a dwc is a lot more work,
and I'm getting better at hempy,its a lot less work.
I don't get the quanity I get with dwc but damn good quality .
at least yet.
hoping for a 1/4 lb. off this girl but thinking 3 z's, don't know these are my fattest girls ive grown or not but sure impressed me.

Dwc is definitely a lot more work. I feel like hempy is one of the easiest ways to grow. It's simple and once the roots hit the res you only need to water like once every 3ish days .Im using just pearlite so I have to water more than someone that was using vermiculite as well.

I had to deal with spider mites with my current grow and they were dying because of my noobness.

Once I took care of those mites and got my nutes/feeding right everything was as easy as water and forget about it for multiple days. No pH or ppm check(besides when I feed them originally).

This was only my forth hempy,each has gotten bigger, so im getting it.
I run just perlite too.
I feed/water every 24 hrs.
This last plant was drinking 1/2 gallon a day and over a 1000 ppm nutes.
This in a roughly 5 gallon bucket.
And i still do a weekly rinse out but a lot easier with a 5 gallon bucket than 7 in a tub.
And my well water is my biggest problem.
Ph changes constantly, i watch that like a hawk.
I use the hole routine on the side of the bucket. That way my water gets used up daily.
I do this because of my ph changes .
