Indoor Speedy Gonzales

Hi folks, I am a first time grower 50 days in and seeking advice from those more seasoned.
I have a 2' x 2' x 4' high tent, with a 250w hps light.
I have 5 plants " Speedy Gonzales" from "Kannabia" they seem to be doing well.
Started them on 20 hours of light untill about 30-35 days and when they started flowering I switched to 12 hours (under the impression its just a waste of hydro once they stat flowering)
Main question is.... is that true?
Next question is.... How exactly do you know when an auto is ready (believe they are different than photos that way) ?

No its not true, it saves you electricity but autos really benefit from the extended photosynthesis periods, hence why breeders recommend 24/0, 20/4, 18/6 schedules (12/12 wont harm it though)
Autos are ready the same photos are... look at trichomes (clear/cloudy/amber) chop depending on desired effect. Clues of plants being close to ready are yellowing and dropping leaves as they use up all internal nutes.

You want to use at least 18/6 throughout. Less light will decrease yield some.

Looking for some input as to when to finish as I am in day 61 of a first grow.
I have attached some photos (hard to get a clear full photo), The photo of the delicious bud is the most mature, it always seemed to be ahead of the rest. It also is the plant with the discoloured leaves, and they have always been that colour..... seeking help as to the cause of the discolouration.
I plan on just water for 10-15 more days................Your input please..... and again thanks in advance
