Hi I'm hoping that the knowledgeable collective here can solve an issue that I have with my seedling? I am a complete noob! This is my 2nd seedling with my 1st just starting to produce the holy grail but has been a steep learning curve with many mistakes. My setup: 3x3x6ft grow tent. 300w cfl dual colour. fan/ventilation. 4 gall dwc res. clay pellets. Rockwool. Good flow airpump with 5cm bubbler. Got advanced nutrients micro/grow/bloom and calmag. Water is tap water left for 24hrs. Ph 5.5 and steady. The problem I have is that in first pic her 1st true leaves came out beautiful and green :-) then the second set emerged and as they got larger I saw they were patchy yellow and green :-S the 3rd set are on the way out, they dont seem to be as patchy/v little but are still rather light green! Can anyone explain this to me? Is a genetics thing/grow room error/nute deficiency? I did give the res 3ml grow and 3ml micro (Very little I know but with my first I nute burned her and I am very cautious now!) I am due to change the res water tomorrow. Many help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome, dwc gardener :) Is your rockwool staying wet? It looks like it might be, and the seedling looks kind of waterboarded by it, I think. If it is staying wet, lower your res level so that it isn't getting saturated- it needs to be able to dry or the stem will damp off. I did that on my first grow, and killed 4 seedlings before I got help, too.
Best to you!
:Sharing One:

Most likely, it looks like the pendulum has swung too far the other way, mate... barring some pH snafu earlier, that looks like she's hungry! Odd it's this yellow though, as she still has good looking cotyl's,... I don't use AN, so how much off of full strength is this dosage? ...I'm not a hydro' guy, so I'll send some one over shorty...

Hey Waxi'! :Sharing One:.... so, this is what water-logged seedling in DWC usually look like? The mottled pattern is what makes me think starving/defc.,...and the appearance of the first true leaves,...

If they don't have roots protruding from the basket, the plants do not need to even be in the rez yet.

I rarely let my my basket even touch the solution.
If the roots are protruding the basket, but not long enough to reach the solution AND you just can't leave well enough alone, just hand feed once or twice a day until the roots hit the solution.

I think this one is soaking wet and has light burn from leaves getting wet.

It's what my shickaberry seedlings did, and I had my DWC rez level right up to the rockwool. I popped another couple seeds, and didn't overfill- had to water the rockwool with a dropper for a few days- and they didn't yellow. My .02...
If they're hungry at that young age, the cotlydons should be their nutrients. It doesn't look like they're being drawn upon, from the pic. I vote lockout from overwatering :)

Waximus, Waira, Greybear a big thank you :-D truly value your wisdom and advice.

Yeah I propagated the seed up to the stage of photo with 1st trues and tap root popping out of the bottom, then transferred to net pot with clay pebbles and put into the res. Now I had read on forums/youtube that I put the net pot in the res with the water line being 1/2" up the net pot and let the bubbler splash the clay pebbles to tease the roots down. I did that 7 days ago.
As you have suggested...have I water logged the rockwool? :-( the top of the rockwool is dry to the touch!

What really perplexes me is the patchiness of the yellowing, with patches of green in random areas?
As you have said the cotly's are nice but if they hungry surely they would draw the nutes from them? arghh so confused!

I am due to change the water tomorrow, so best thing to do is to reduce res level to below the net pot (1/2" below??)

Do I need to add nutes? I put 3ml of micro and grow into res. I did put a light nutes into my 1st seedling and burned the crap out of it so really scared to hand feed this one!

I hope im not talking crap..or testing anyone patience!

Your help is really appriciated

and thank you for the warm welcome :-D

P.S I have added a photo of my baby from earlier this afternoon :-) just you can see how its progressing.

hmm,

I am going to say when you do your rez change, give your hydroton a bit of a dunk or two in in some plain water or better, gently spray it with a sprayer.
Then go ahead and add the AN Micro at 1/2 strength and the grow at 1/4 strength to the rez ( it would be better if you had an EC tester, we can get a much better read on what is going on with the plant)
ph as needed, but don't go crazy.

Keep your net about .5 - 2" above your nute solution.
if the roots are protruding from the net the popping bubbles will spray enough nutrient to draw more roots into the solution.
Then you are good, don't let the rez get too high or too low.
Generally speaking, if the net doesn't get immersed or the rez does not go below about 1/2 you will be fine.

Keep the pics up, some plants just start a bit wonky, but do fine.

Grey bear you are a star :-D
I have a ppm meter so I will update with that when I have done the res change tomorrow and will follow your advice, thank you.
I will drop the res level to get the root to draw out.
With my first I rushed and took rockwool out cause I didnt have any roots reaching out, only to go and snap the tap root/root network clean in half as it had grown sidewards :-S not making that mistake again!
Thank you for your help, much appreciate it
