Hi Guys,

This is an afghan auto, planted in organic soil with added peat moss and vermiculite with mulch on top.

its been above ground for 2.5 weeks and seems to be pretty slow growing, has barely risen in height the last week even though the second set of leaves grew to the length of the first.

its planted in an arid part of Australia, day temps are a mixed bag at the moment low to high 20's and some low 30s (c) and overnight 10 or lower. It was in a spot that got sun all day (there is 12hrs of daylight at the moment) however recently moved it to an area that get 2-3hrs of shade during the hottest part of the day as the edge of the leaves were curling up a little as well as drooping. Soon the temps will continue to climb to high 30's (20 at night) but should finish growing before the 40's come

is this plant a write off?

Can anyone give advice on how much direct sun it should be getting in a place with pretty strong sun and hot days?

Im about to germinate another seed or two, anything different that should be done?

Thanks guys!

When they are babies almost no direct sunlight is best, especially if it's that intense. That's imo. They never look like much for first couple of weeks so it is not much behind. I think it's worth saving. You could get a sun screen which filters direct sun a bit as well. Needs full blast sun as a slow introduction just as she is flowering. Maybe try morning and evening direct sun and remove from the midday sun. Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun lol

Night temp is a little to cold and could slow her down a bit but just leave her go if temps will be warming up a bit at night.

I'd keep going with her [emoji106] terrible business with the weather over in Australia keep looking at the New South Wales news scary such little rain and hot temps.

Peace to you and the seedling.

Was thinking temps wouldn't be a good thing, not with swings at the best part of up to 20°C like he says, so I wonder if some sort of "cold frame", a mini greenhouse, would help stabilise things as you can easy rig these things up with "windows" that automatically open and close as the temperature rises and falls as the automatic openers are not expensive and I've used them on "proper" greenhouses before.

Just a thought to try and bring the environment into a more stable area for such young plants, a smal investment which could pay itself back in spades as the years go on.

Hey mate i am growing in similar conditions to you at the moment. I start my seedlings indoor under cfl and start putting them outside in dappled sunlight for a few hours at a time after they are a couple of weeks old. Our intense sun is a little much for young seedlings in my opinion. Those temps should be ok for older plants as I have plants doing well in the same environment, for young seedlings i would put them indoor under 10c of a night (if possible ). I would start the new seeds indoor under light if possible and introduce them to the sun gradually. @912GreenSkell has written the best guides on the net about growing outdoor, see if you can find them and give them a good read (i would post a link but I'm a retard with technology)
