So I have been growing for a bit, normally photos but this is my first run at autos, and I want to be sure to grow them in the best possible conditions. Currently I have a 4x4 closet that I grow in and a 1000watt dual spectrum HPS/MH with cool tube for lighting. My issue is the ballast is dimmable and at 50% power, I get temps in my room of 78-79, at 75% power I get around 81-82, and at full 100% power a whopping 85 degrees. Should I sacrifice wattage to keep my girls cool, or will this not be make or break since it is on the cusp of 'bad' according to most of what I have read. Thanks everyone, and glad to be aboard.

I assume you have an exhuast?.Also, no mention of your RH . Do you need to have your exhaust fan at full power to keep tent at 85 with light @100%?
I run 4 autocobs in a 2x4x5 tent. 77-82F 24hrs w/8" fan at half power. Heat and humidity are going to be your other factors on a decent yield compared to a great yield

Yes, 400cfm fan through a carbon filter, rh is ~40% or so usually. Thanks for the reply.

I think higher watt==higher yield. You can learn some techniques to control temperature, it is easy to operate. I am using Reflector 192 in tent 4x4, then I changed to MarsproII320, the yield increases a lot.

I wouldn't say higher watt = higher yield unless you're comparing apples to apples. I mean you could put a 1000W bar radiator in there and you'd get a very red spectrum and a lot of watt! but not much growth.

Basically more light = more yield, up to the point where it's useless without additional CO2. 85ºF I do not think is worth cutting down the light intensity. However HPS tends to generally grow a taller plant.

The beauty of Autos is that you do not have to seal the tent or grow area so you can use natural ventilation as well. I'd want to keep the light brighter, which also means that you can put it slightly further away so that even if 100% is giving you the same light readings as 75%, you'll still be on top with a better spread and a better depth penetration.
