Hi AFN,

I'm planning on growing 4 WOS Afghan Kush Ryders in 11 litre pots under a dual 250w hps.

My last grow I used a light bat mix (homne & garden) however I would like to cut down on feeding nutes and let the soil give the plant what it needs.

My question is, will I be OK germinating then getting them started in peat pellets then putting them straight into the final pots with the hot plagron bat mix?

OR

Would I be better off putting them in seedling soil then transplanting after they show sex? I'm reluctant to transplant as I have read countless times that the time it takes to recover is time taken from the limited life of the auto (meaning less bud).

There must be a proven way to do this? Or should I just use the light mix throughout?

Thanks in advance.

I know the OP isn't here anymore but in case anyone else comes across the thread wondering the same thing..

SOME strains can be planted directly into hot soil like batmix (don't underestimate how much our tapwater can affect this, depending on its base ec) but most cannot handle it. However, there are still ways to grow with it without transplant-shock.

Get a coir pot, fill it with a light soil for germing in and plant that directly in the middle of your final pot filled with batmix (or other strong soil). Coir pots are designed precisely for this purpose and as the seedling grows it's roots grow through the walls of the coir. By the time it's old enough and its roots are strong enough to do this.. they're pretty much able to handle strong soil, too.

However, I've noticed that very quick-growing phenos tend to stunt a bit because their roots hit the strong soil a bit too quickly and get a fright. However that can be overcome by making a 2nd layer of half/half soil.

Bit of extra work at the pot-filling stage but well worth it because you eliminate tranplant-shock, and you get that unbeatable flavour in the end-product.

:peace:
