Happy Tuesday :vibes:
I want to grow some autos outdoors and wonder when to start them in California? Can anyone give me some ideas about when I can start some autos outdoor? Thanks!!

(photos) How much space, and how big do you want them?

In my average backyard, with a normal 6 ft fence I don't start till june or so otherwise they just get too big.

Autos.... soon as the overnight temps stop hitting the 40s.... but I'll add, I do not start autos outside, I try and give them 2 weeks indoors first, otherwise I see lots of small plants (low rH).

Current weather has had me feeling the need to put plants out. Was 82 here the other day. Kinda odd for end of March.

Depends on your location. You can throw them outside like Arthur said as soon as it warms up. Especially if you want two harvests.

Depending on your climate you can start indoor and get two harvest outside in one year.

If you are just going for one harvest, I would wait until the temps are a bit warmer at night, more like upper 50's to low 60's. You also don't want them outside baking in 100 degree heat either.

Heck if you want smoke asap you can throw one out now, and start some more in a month or so when temps get a bit more ideal.

Your best bet is just starting them inside for as long as you can to get maximum growth. 2-3 weeks indoors would be best.

You have lots of options. There is such a vast array of climates in California, it is hard to say exactly whats best for you. I won't put any autos outside myself until June as I live up in the mountains.

Good luck!!

Awesome information! Thanks guys :astar:
I am on the central coast of California.
I like the idea of starting indoor for 2-3 weeks to get maximum growth then finishing up outdoor.

I keep them in pots because I have a lot of critters and the pots keep them safe from my animals eating them up!
Thanks for your replies:peace::thanks:

I am in the central valley of CA. You can plant them outdoors after the soil temperature is 58°F. The summer fog will be your worst problem. We have a vendor we are trying to get active again that makes a product for Mold Control. @Waira what is the status for that vendor? Waira is also on the CA coast and may have some pointers for you!

We generally travel to Morro Bay and Cambria a couple times each summer to escape the valley heat.

:goodluck:
