Indoor When to water and when not to question

So my soil is almost completely dry and its light when i pick her up. So its definitely time to water. Now i run my auto on a 20 -4 light schedule and im curious about one thing. Can plants or more specifically marijuana still take up water when the lights go out either by their roots or by foliar feeding?

Think that: in 90% cases when outside rains, there is no sun on sky. And plants still growing, right?

Cannabis plant doesn`t go to sleep when lights go out, all biological processes still happen, except photosynthesis because there is no light.
