For some reason all the autos i have done for some time now all get taller then they are advertised to.For example breeder say's 40-60 cm tall.Well they are all over 80cm some over 1m.This seems to happen to all strains i do! What ever happen to the autos that ranged from 30-60 cm and remained that size?Is it some thing i am doing? Is it that breeders are going for bigger auto? Now they are taller and bushy as well.It is not like they are lanky from lack of light.

Sorta hard to say why fully... Doesn't sound like an awful problem to me, though. Do you use big pots and lots of lights and know what you're doing and/or have great luck? That'll do it.

A lot of Autos still aren't super duper stable and still have 2,3 sometimes even 4+ phenotypes per strain. Some tall, some short, some fat, etc.

Unless you are keeping your lights too far away and they're always stretching...:D

I use 5 gallon grow bags filled 3/4 of the way up.I use 3-600 hps in a 5x9 area.Yes big is good yield, but i would rather have short and bushy!

That's a big pot and a lot of juice. I hear you though. What strains have you tried?
And as long as your air flow and temps are good you can keep your lights closer to keep the nodes tighter. Or tie them down.

First of all, The Squidman is talking sense.

I think the HPS is to high, and probably too strong for little ones. Can you get a CFL to get them into the vegging stage? If you keep a CFL a couple of inches above the sprouts, it should control your internodal spacing. Once iit transistions into veg, then you can flip on that HPS needs about two or three sets of leaves first. Then keep an eye on the hieght of that light. Not sure about the 600 reccomendation but somewhere around 18-24 inches, (someone may have a better idea on that then me) I have an HPS 150 and it did the same thing. I had about a 80 mm plant that was supposed to not go over 50. But I didn't have my cfl's then for vegetative stage. See if you can mess around with your lighting a bit, see if that works.

This grow my main focus is on light, and internodes at 1 - 1.5 inches.

my two cents

Eek

I have had the same thing happen to my grows.Several of my girls have grown far beyond there stated heighth abd I had to do a lot of lst training and tying the main cola doen away from my lights,I have one that I'm about to chop that I had to tie down so this happens quite often and like squid said they are showing traits of some of there original heritage.

hps is fine for little ones intensity is relative to distance its the same sun on the north pole as in africa. speaking of which the sun is more powerful than any hps how did cannabis ever manage outside

you would have the lamp further away at seedling/veg stage
no more than 3000 lumens max at early stages and can be a touch lower for seedlings if wanted 2k or so
i go for 3000 to begin with

you will find some phenos more lanky than others

Perhaps because the sun is so far away... :D HPS is fine for any stage, just wondering if he had it too far away and could put it closer to tighten his height up. :D

Awesome info guys.I have cool tubes and the lights are about 15-18 inches away.I have kept them close the entire way. Strains that have gotten big are: creamatic, royal dwarf, ak auto ,Berry ryder ( some pushing 50 ")Critical auto. There is no way i can raise the lights any more without building a second floor! LOL Several i have just bend branches. My main problem is over crowding.I will consider cutting my numbers down next time around.Somtimes less is more!I thought if i increased light to penatrate canopy i could crowd them alittle. 4x9=36 sq ft - 1800 watts/ 36 = 50 watt per square foot. Which feel is quite sufficient. Also while i have you experienced guys around What cfm fan do feel is proper for venting 3-600 watt hps and still have enough push to get heat through a decent carbon filter. I need to improve from the 220cfm i have now i believe to keep heating issues down.

Ima catch hell for this... Consider doing your vedge under a t5 6-8 inches from the the plant for the first 3 weeks or so.
