As it says above. We are trying to remove marijuana from the "drug" category. Drugs are made by man in a lab of some form, either high tech or bath tub. Marijuana is a medicinal herb that grows natural, grown by man but not created by man. Breeders are naming strains after some dirty hardcore drugs such as "green crack", "crystal meth" etc. Don't you think the anti-mmj groups would use these names of strains to compare marijuana to these disgusting addictive man-made drugs they are named after. And keep it in the same category.

Well, to be fair, the marijuana I smoke and grow has been seriously manipulated. Autoflowers wouldn't exist were it not for the meddling of man. Same as Feminized seeds, made with Colloidal Silver, Aluminum oxide, etc. Truth be told, and in all reality, Marijuana growing in the wild sucks (comparatively) - it's full of seeds and low in THC.
That being said, you make an excellent point ! I'm actually surprised the wrong people haven't made the correlation between the two. It does sound all bad. It'd be like drinking a beer called "Fish Scale" or "Black Tar" ! You make a great point, every little bit helps !
Anything that helps to remove the ridiculous stigma on Cannabis is good by me. :pass:
Cool Post ! :weed::peace::weed:

In many countries, such as the U.S., there is freedom of speech, including commercial product trade names and marketing. If it's not illegal you can do it. Obviously, strain names alluding to potent controlled, even addictive, drugs work and are good for marketing. The names convey or imply potency, type of effects, etc. rather well. Also, until cannabis is legal (those few lucky enough to live in localities where (quasi)-legalized are the exception), it remains just as illegal (Schedule 1) as these other drugs of abuse; and in that context, why wouldn't hard(er) drug sub-culture brand names be used and even OK?

Legalize it fully (at federal level) and the names will follow, become more oriented to a mass market. But there will still be some or many products retaining these names and some companies will continue to use them for new strain tool.

Do we want cannabis marketing regulated totally, such as limited to word-for-word language and with full adverse effect warnings stated on every marketing piece, like the direct-to-consumer (DTC) marketing of prescription drugs currently in the U.S. and some other countries? Do we want to setup strain name regulation and policing? Who is going to set the standards, make judgements, and how will these be enforced.

And do we also outlaw other "bad" references, such as Six Shooter (Fast Buds) because this alludes to a gun and violence, or "Amnesia" because that is a disease and we are offending these patients....? Once you start, where would it stop?

Yea it's counter productive to the cause for sure. Just like how the one dispensery in Massachusetts that just opened up... every single strain they offer are what I would personally consider "more recreational" imagine this... a first time cannabis patient gets their card goes to the dispensery and pays 350$ for an ounce of "facewrecker" a strain they claim is 34%thc virtually no cbd. They don't offer any high cbd or lower thc strains . The highest cbd strain they have was chemdog Seriously? 20+% thc with .058 percent cbd? Hardly a high cbd variety.

Surely there must be a market for a more balanced list of cultivars? Even in Amsterdam, the coffee shops/recreational dispensaries have a range of products...I believe customers will drive demand...and after a month or so, folk will be `tailoring` their choice more carefully(I would, personally!) Can`t you grow your own? (Always better t`grow y`own!) Then ask the `dispensary/outlet` to start offering a larger choice! After all...you`re a customer...:smokeit::toke:

Ridiculous, even for a Sativa man like myself.
That's probably one of the downsides to the unavailability of licensing for distribution to normal people like us.
Instead it's going to a lot of the same suits that were just locking people up for it not long ago:cuss:.

Yea in order to even apply to have a dispensery you need to show 500,000.00 in a bank account. Send them a check for 30,000.00. and from what I hear the way they pick who is granted the license or not is all who knows who. For us the one dispensery is owned buy a guy with a few dispenseries in Colorado.
