I am pro trans plant! For many good reasons that have been stated above. You save space, light, money.Preparation is the key to a successfull transplant. When starting in a 16oz cup the seedling is so much easier to manage.Imagine having to flush 3 gallon pot with a 2 week old plant in it, cause ph or somthing went wrong. The 2 ways i have found to have a non stress tranplant are he following:I cut out the bottom of the party cup before sowing seed. That way it can just be tranplanted into final container when the time is right. That is when ample rooting has occured at bottom of cup and roots are pretruding out of the bottom of the cup.2nd Is the most successful way for me,I just allow cup to dry out as the transplant date approaches (14-16 days). Before transplant i take an empty cup and form the shape in the soil of the final container. That way seedling will fit right in nice and snug without disturbing root ball.I then place the stalk between my middle finger and my pointing finger, turn upside down.I tap the bottom of the cup a few times with my free hand. This with losten things up.Then just slide cup off and place root ball into preformed hole. Then water to settle it in.I always see groth with in 1-2 days with no stunning. The key is to be careful, and to limit disturbing the roots as much as possiable.
