400 Watt attic grow

ANY AND ALL TIPS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! I have been growing photo plants for about 1 1/2 year now but this is my first grow with autos. Im a lil bit nervous since I do not know what to expect.

Again, Thanks for your input and following my grow log
Whats up mates??? I am going to start my grow journal here. I will give a brief description of what/where my grow-room is and other setup details.

My Grow Box - The grow box is 4.5' x 4' and is in my attic. The height of my box tapers from 4.5' to about 12" at the top with a total hieght of about 5'6". The box is framed out using the existing trusses in my attic. I framed the box using 3/4" board as my outer walls and insulated with r60 then put up sheetrock on the inside. I covered the sheetrock with white panda film. I ran a seperate 30Amp circuit strictly for my growbox.

Ventilation/Exhaust - I will be running an air-cooled 400Watt HPS/MH Lumatek electronic ballast. I have 2, 6" fans on the exhaust. I also will be using a filter when the time comes. I run an active exhaust with a passive intake. My exhaust systems is as follows : Filter---ducting---hood---ducting---6" fan---6' of ducting----6" fan. My intake is a semi active/passive system b/c I am taped into my main hvac system with 2, 6" lines ran into my room ( 1 on each side of the grow box at the bottom ). This system acts as a active intake when my home AC system is running b/c the 2 ducts in my growroom blow as hard as any other vent in my home. I have a very strong negative pressure inside the grow box. If Im smoking a J outside of the room the smoke gets sucked into the room and into the filter. My temps stay between 65-85. I have to use a space heater that is on a timer to help controll the temps...I try to keep an average of 75 degrees.

Plants - I will be growing 4 Autos - 3 DNA Genetics 60 Day WONDER and 1 Auto Dinafem Critical Jack. I will also be vegging 2 reg feminized seeds that I will be putting outdoors when they are well established.

Day 1 on April 8 ( Seeds popped the ground )

What lighting Schedule is best?

I have been running 24/0 for the past 14 days and I want to make sure Im not reducing the potential of my girls by not running 20/4 or 18/6!

Everyone here is bound to have a different opinion on this subject lol.

I choose to give my plants a certain amount of darkness, mainly beacuse I treat them like they were alive and I would hate to be awake for 2/3 months straight. everyone needs sleep lol.
In the grows I have done so far I started at 24/0 for the first week just to get as much out of her in those first few days as possible, then over the course of the second week dropped it down day by day until I was on 18/6 which I then kept at until the second week of flowering which I finally dropped down to 12/12 until harvest which finished at week 10 (Automatic Critical Mass), averaged an oz per plant grown under three 25ish watt energy savers., you'll do fine.

So technically I treat my auto's fairly similar to photos. Mainly because I noticied a difference in the growth rate after a lengthier lights off period. Although I have read many posts where people have grown their plants from start to finish on a 24/0 schedule, a 18/6 and even a 12/12 from start to finish with no problems at all and all finishing within the 8-10 week period.

If I was to choose one time schedule to stick to start to finish it would be 18/6, best of both worlds.

Sorry not to be able to give you a straight answer but in all honesty, I'm not sure there is one.

Good luck dude

Peace

Buy the ticket, take the ride :howdy:

I appreciate your input Rival. I see more of a lights off range than I do with 24/0! Im going to switch to 18/6 tonight and see how they react. I will give them lights off during the middle of the day, so I can help with the temp spike in the middle of the day...AFTER All, My growbox is in my attic!

It is a known fact that a plant does its most growing in dark ( atleast thats what I interpreted over all my readings ) so I will be switching..

I will be moving my photo plants outdoors on next Monday! They are off to a fine start. These will be my 1st ever outdoor experience. I hear the plants get huge outside, is the smoke quality any different for outdoor if you were to grow the same plant indoor vs outdoor?

I'm yet to start an outdoor grow of my own though have helped others start theirs however I am in the process of planning one..... looks like a lot of people are tbh.

From what I gather the plants use the dark period to convert what energy the have stored during the day into useful chems which give them their boost in the following days, a cycle of storing and growing.... not a very scientific answer I do apologise.

Good call having the dark period in the day, I always make the mistake of turning them out in the evening when the temps drop rapidly here sometimes but you've reminded me not to that this time so thank you.

In my experience you'll never have a finer smoke than one grown outdoors.
Certainly a difference in taste IMO, nothing man made can compare to what the sun will do for your plants, and yeah, expect them to grow rather large lol.
What strain are you sending into the big wide world??

going outdoors are 1 Afgan Haze 33, 1 toxic Blue 33, and 1 Herijuana Jack 33!!!

All 3 were free seeds from Attitude when I made my order for the Autos!!!

Very nice.

I'm just waiting for my auto's as we speak and next week I shall be ordering my outdoor variety, no idea what to get, I'm always blinded like a kid in a candy shop

Day 17

The 60 Day Wonder is still being short and stumpy on me, especially if you compare the Critical Jack Auto to them.

I feed last night with 1/2 strength nutes at 1tsp Grow Big and 1Tbl Big Bloom in 1 Gallon of water. I was only able to drip half a gallon of the nute solution on my girls before the water started seaping out the bottom of the pots.
I am using the Fox Farm Trio Pack nutes. I have used the same nutes on my last 5 cycles without a problem.

ready.jpgThe Critical Jack in the pic ( up front on right ) is already getting her 1st LST. I started LST on her on Monday ( Day 13 ). She is 5" taller than the 60 Day Wonder but not much more leaf growth. Just taller. These 60 day Wonder are amazingly dense/short to me.

I switched the light cycle yesterday to 18/6...my lights are off from 4pm-10pm each day. I am hoping darkness is what the 60 day wonder is calling for.

UNTIL NEXT TIME,
SMOKE GOOD!
