Sup,
I'm planing a gorilla grow for spring next year. 4 to 6 plants, "Easy Bud" & "AutoFrisian Dew". Latitude 55+.
Anyway, I'm thinking of using 2 litre coke bottles as pots. Upside down, bottom cut off, some burlap where the lid would've been. Also, going to germinate straight into the pot and use just store bought soil/potting mix (maybe some nutes added later if required) .
If I can get ~15g per plant I'll be satisfied.
Being able to use these bottles will increase my stealth factor significantly.
So what do you all think? Can 15g per plant be achieved in 2 litre (though about 30cm deep) bottles?

Hey there CH,

Totally Doable, However I have a question or two.

Are you going to remove the top of the bottle? if you are gonna leave that part intact, you will have very little drainage compared to a regularly draining flower pot. I used the top of a five gallon water bottle for a planter. I had removed the top part so I could use the other part of the bottle as a bucket. It has a bigger opening in the top, about 1.5 inches compared to a two liter bottle (about a 2/3 of an inch hole). This top (used for marigolds) Did not drain well, and I didn't have to water very much.

Why would these bottles increase your stealth factor?

Sounds good though, hope it goes well for ya.

I will be around to see if you get to my questions

My plan was to take the lid off and attach some burlap, and that would be the drainage system. Less holes than a regular pot but due to the shape (funnel like) it would make up for it. I want to maximize the length of the bottle, and perhaps even allow for some "air pruning" like a smart pot.
I want to put them in trees. Specifically pine trees. Between two branches, attached to the trunk with above branches adjusted to allow the arching sun of northern countries to reach it all day. Only about 3 to 6 feet off the ground but free from animals and void from the view of anyone not standing directly in front.

Sounds like a plan. Can't get to high in the trees though or watering will be a bitch.

Maybe the extra water retention I spoke of will help you. In that kind of situation, the less watering you have to do the better.

I can't wait to see it, you will take pictures yes?

Definitely not too high. It's already hard enough getting close to the trunk of an adolescent pine tree. Lol
There'll be a dairy and pics. And hopefully a happy ending.
Cheers bud:)

Thanks dude.
10+ hours of scouting over a couple of weeks and I think this'll be the way to go stealth wise. Just hope the plants stay happy.

Careful with the pots in trees, extra air flow will dry out your pots a lot quicker just a littles heads up.. Back in my guerrilla days I used gallon water jugs with the top part cut off to give a little more room for the base of the plant but leave enough that the handle structure is intact, with drainage holes on the bottom. Makes it very easy to move your plants or in your case secure them to a tree - good luck

stealth isnt much of a concern with autos, if placed properly, they are nearly undetectable, right out in the open. I wouldnt bother with the whole 'tree in a tree' idea unless its absolutely necessary. Also that FD has potential to give you some good yields, shame to constrict her to such a small pot. Consider learning some basic guerrilla techniques and a single plant might produce more than 5 in a tree style.

Stealth is always a concern... with everything.
