I was wondering guys if anyone can tell me how often bulbs should be changed when using 600w Metal Halide dual spectrum bulbs and are there any better bulbs or lighting on the market, I was wondering about the effectiveness of fluorescent lights and are they as good? thanks in advance guys :tiphat:

Hi Warrior

I (should) change my bulb every grow - although sometimes i'll sneak 2 grows out of one bulb. Over time the blub loses lumen output, your eyes won't necessarily see it .. but your plants will know.

Better bulbs? What are you using - if you have a generic no name brand, then yes - sylvania grolux will be better.

I was wondering about the effectiveness of fluorescent lights and are they as good?
No, they're cheaper to run and give off less heat but watt for watt are not as good as HPS.

Thanks for that Blue much appreciated, I guessed that I should change the bulbs now since they will have been used 4 times now!!

You'll need to check with the manufacturer to make sure but most of those bulbs have a life span of about 20,000 hours. They slowly lose their intensity but it doesn't start to drop off quickly until they reach about 80% of their useful life, or about 16,000 hours. Running 20/4, that's about 2 years. When I ran HPS/MH is used to change mine every years and a half just to be safe.
