Lighting 600w metal halide height?

Hello all I have a new setup with a 600w. I'm running a mh bud for veg.. I have an air cooled hood and temps are 79 hi. How far above my plants should I set the light. They are 2 weeks old now but my light is set to the top of my tent I'm sure it could stand to be closer
