What up guys. Running into a little issue early in the grow here.

I recently soaked 7 Sour Cracks seeds in RO water for 24 hours. Then moved to the paper towel for 24 hours until the taproot showed. I then dropped in rapid rooters and put in a tray under humidity dome.

The seeds sprouted from the hole on Monday the 13th. It’s now Friday the 17th and the shells are still attached to all of the seedlings. They are all about 2-3 inches above the top of the rooters.

Is this okay? At what point should I get the tweezers or toothpicks out to remove the shell?

Majority of time this can be cured by simply planting the seed deeper in the medium. But since they're already helmeted, Doctor Good2bu to the operating room! :warrior: Best of luck

Didn’t know that. Thanks for the tip.

You could probably try it now but you have to be very gentle and not disturb the tap root. Sometimes just a little nudge with a tooth pick will suffice, If they are still stuck on give them another day. I always mist them with some water also.

I tried with two toothpicks and got 4 off. I had to use a pair of tweezers for the 5th. Thanks for the tip.

I just had that happen. I misted then waited about 10min. then misted again. With a tiny splinter from medium I was able to CAREFULLY loosen then pop it off. The other only felt comfortable slightly dislodging helmet, re-misted waited 10min. more and finished. You'll be fine just take your time

I know you got your shell issue resolved already but may I suggest that you try soaking the seed until it sinks. If after 24 hours it hasn’t sunk, dunk a few times with your finger or stir it around so it sinks. Then come back in 24 hours and continue your germ method. That should make the shell come off naturally while it's growing. I just had a sour crinkle take a week to shed its shell but it eventually came off. I had to cull a GSWK because the shell took 2 weeks to fall off and open up to expose the 1st 4 leafs. I think a good soak is key. I soak my seeds in Kelp and Jump Start per the bottle's directions and even got my seeds to pop by germinating right I to the soil after a good soak.

@Farmer Dee next time don’t wait two weeks. If mine pop up with the she’ll i usually most the she’ll cover about every 15 minutes two or three times. If it doesn’t come off on its own lightly try to push it one way or the other it will naturally come off one way or the other better, still stuck, wait a few hrs at most and repeat. Two weeks with the shell blocks the leaves from absorbing the light needed for photosynthesis. I don’t wait anymore.
