Every grow at least one girl is a bit of a leaner and needs some help standing straight. I use my dowel stir stick and within 24 hours they’re good to go without assistance.

Day 14
The girls are happy and healthy. Light cycle is now 20/4 and inline fan is running. I’m using 36” stakes now.

Day 21
They’ve been top dressed and straw placed. Training going on for both. BP got dowel placed 12” above top of pot. RB is mimicking the growth structure of CDLC.

Just opened up the tent and to my surprise BP shot a root out the bottom.

Tonight RB has also pushed roots out the bottom. She is 11” tall and the soil depth is 16”. I was curious if shorter varieties roots would utilize a 10 gallon pot and the answer is yes. I’ve read a few folks say, “Anything larger than a 5 gallon is a waste of medium because roots won’t fill the pot.” This may be true but I think the caveat would be environmental conditions, medium type and watering styles play a huge part in root development.

I stopped listening to anybody who said i couldnt do it the way i wanted to try. So many people think there is only one way to skin a cat!

Just because the roots wont fill the entire area doesnt mean there aren’t benefits. I see living soil grows going in earthboxes that are absolutely mindblowing! The roots dont fill the entire space and plenty of growers grow that way! After a little experience with these plants you will find what works and what doesnt, always experiment if you think it can produce better. Thats how we learn!

I’ve been using 7 gal bags the last 3 years.
Grew in 5’s previous to that. The light foot print in my space is 4’x8’ but legally and because of summer heat I can only grow 12 plants a year. I get about 25% better yield using the bigger containers. Will try a 10 on a big sativa strain coming up.

BP started to show necrosis six days ago on the bottom three sets of primary fan leaves. It has migrated further up the plant but for the most part the smaller leaves look fine.
RB is loving life and doing her thing.
Both girls have had identical feedings to this point so it looks to be a genetics issue. Environment has remained in an ideal zone.

Some reasons the older, lower leaves might be dying: not enough light, underwatering, nitrogen deficiency, or pests. It could be many different things, but those 4 seem to be the most common. Root rot from overwatering can also cause leaves to start dying from the bottom up. Otherwise they look great!
