Hey smithers, check out my grow. https://www.autoflower.org/f44/first-grow-looking-some-help-along-way-37404.html First off, my humble opinion is if you can go with 2 plants. The two things I will focus on my second grow will be getting my soil Ph right before I plant and not wasting money trying to "cheap" my lighting system. If you can go HPS and MH, it is tried and true but heat is a major issue in small spaces. There are lots of options and price ranges out there for leds and that is what I ultimately went with and I am happy. Also, don't under estimate the odor issue if you are worried about stealth. A carbon filter/fan combo is well worth the $.

Thanks mate! The seeds I'm buying come in packs of 3 so part of me wants to plant them all to increase my chances of at least one being successful (all 3 preferably :D), but the size of grow tent I'm looking at getting can only be so big and may not accommodate more than 1. I'll see how it goes. My thinking is though if I grow them one at a time, they don't have to compete with each other for light and space, and it'll be easier for me to care and attend to one than 3. If the first doesn't work out for whatever reason, I can analyse where I went wrong and do things differently for the second etc.

I'll be using my spare room as the grow room, which is also where I hang my laundry to dry and where I keep my summer road bike, currently in bits awaiting a summer build. lol! So I am limited on the size of tent.

Smell is my only major concern really, but I've been looking into carbon filters and I agree with you it'll be totally worth the money. From what I've read about them, once the stale air has passed through the filter, the weed smell has gone. This is great because I can then duct the air towards an open window, without actually having the ducting sticking out the window. From the outside, I obviously don't want to attract attention.

I'll have a good look at your grow and see if I can learn anything. Thanks everyone! What a great place! :D

Smithers!

Welcome to AFN! :)

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

Sounds like you're doing it right!! :)

I agree on the spare room. Lofts can be a nightmare to keep a decent environment!
I'd get a tent - something that can be taken down easily if necessary - for growing three decent sized plants you probably need about 100 x 100cm floor space and 150-180cm high.

I have a 60x60 cab and it'll do one big photoperiod or three smaller autos (max..prefarably 2)

Smell is a concern for all - my recommendation is to get a really good carbon filter (Phresh or Rhino) and out take fan (Ruck is a good one). This will save you a lot of paranoia.

Doing it cheap cheap, you can get CFLs and basic nute lineup - they';; grow you some buds. If you are taking a longer term view, a decent LED will be better for you in long term (more power, less electric, less heat - lots of benefits - but initially more expensive)

Good luck with the frist grow - DP are great!

Hey smithers, nice intro. Welcome bruv.

If it were me, I would get a LED. For less than £80.00 you can find a decent model that will suit a one plant setup. Heat build up is no issue with them and the running costs are low. Basic garden center "nutes" will be fine. Get one for veg and one for Bloom/fruit. If you are UK, I use Chempak No2 and No4 from my local center. Works well and does not cost a fortune.
Personally, I have never really had an issue with odour. Depends on who visits !!!
Any questions, do ask.

good luck, eP.

Hey everyone!

It's been a while since I've been able to get on here. Work has been very busy, plus various other things going on in my life, that I've had to put 'project grow my own' on hold. But I'm back now with a vengeance! :D

I've bought pretty much everything except lighting and extraction, as I feel these are probably the most important areas of the whole project and I wanted to take more time to consider the available options. Whilst I'm on a budget, I really don't want to scrimp on these and to buy the best I can afford.

Purchased so far:

Secret Jardin DS60 Grow Tent (60x60x150cm). This was the smallest tent available, which for my needs is perfectly adequate. I only intend to grow 1 plant at any one time.
15 litre air pot
Plagron Light Mix soil with perlite
Hesi Soil Grow(TNT Complex) 5 Litre
Hesi Soil Bloom Complex 5 Litre
Hesi Phosphorus Plus 1 Litre (during flowering stage)
AutoUltimate - 3 seeds feminized

Still left to buy:

Mini Supernova with Maxibright Digilight & 250W Sunmaster Lamp. This uses a digital ballast which doesn't run as hot as the mechanical types. I'm paranoid about fire etc! It's also slightly more efficient. It also uses a dual spectrum HPS lamp which is good for both the vegetative and flowering stages, negating the need for a separate CFL light which I had originally considered. This will be connected through a Maxiswitch 2-Way Light Controller.
RUCK Fan & Rhino Pro Filter With Acoustic Ducting - 4 inch (270m3).
6" clip on fans to maintain air circulation.

I will be purchasing these items imminently, but in the meantime if anyone has any feedback or suggestions, or if indeed there's anything I've missed, I'd be most grateful. :)

Cheers!
