A real conundrum. LED lights are killing my plants! Why?

What is the Ph of the runoff?

Hay dude so sorry your having problems. Can you tell me a little about the spectrum mainly the ratio of 660nm to 630nm. If your light has more 630nm than 660nm it's not the ideal spectrum, my friend had a light with this spectrum and its not good for his plants.

That would be...

8 ROYAL BLUE 460nm LED'S
64 RED LED'S 630nm
4 DEEP RED 660NM LED'S
2 WHITE 12000K
1 IR 730nm
1 UV 380nm

So does that mean these lights are crap? It does have ALOT more 630 than 660... by a LONG shot... are you sure about that? Please tell me more about your friend's light! The manufacturer is quite certain about these ratio's...

The exact same thing happen too me,,,,with the same blackstar knock-off. I put up a t5 instead,,,I don't think I can raise mine high enough?

Really? hmmm... where did you get it from?

As for me it looks more like ph issues. :2cents: . But have not much experience with other led's than fero...

What is the Ph of the runoff?

It is not a pH issue I assure you. I haven't tested the run-off in quite some time, but it was around 5.8. I have calibrating once a week, just to be extra sure. That was one issue I have been scrupulous about since day 1. I am now sure its not pH, plus, upon shutting off the LEDs, new healthy lush green growth.

I recently read a thread where the grower quoted the manufacturer who suggests to start the lights at 24 - 30" (wow, thats 60cm!) and lower 1 inch until first signs of burning / bleaching appear, and he did describe the same crispyness... I did have them quite closer.

Thanks for participating, and keep it coming!

Thanks J TaNg!! You rock dude!

Will look into it!

could it be too much ULTRA VIOLET light. I remember as a youngster i tried growing some tomatoes with what i had thought was a CFL tube kind of like a black light style cfl, the bulb wasn't black/purple but it looked like a warm spectrum of light. I went to bed the 1 night i had been working around it and i woke up the next morning and i couldn't open my eyes. I think that the light some how burnt my eyes; i went into my little room that the plants and light were in, and all of the plants were dead and wilted over. Too much UVB im thinking. the god damned fucking light even sun burned my face. Come to find out, my brother had stolen the light buld from his high school's chemistry lab; in which the light was in a sterilization closet. This closet was used for killing off germs on equipment; such as goggles, scissors, hemostats, etc... NE ways does any body think that this could be the case? Too much UV?

Yes it is something to consider mate, but the original blackstars do run with UV in there spectrum and they don't cause adverse effects on the plants.

Uv can be harmful to plants the same as us, UVB is only Realy beneficial in the last few weeks of flower.

True, but considering how much UV the sun puts off I doubt the little amount from the lights is the cause.
