I've recently decided to partially DIY a new, shorter, top feed dwc system to avoid plants' growing into the lights.
Most top feed build instructions include a submerged water pump that can add heat to a reservoir.
General Hydroponics has a different scheme that works very well, based on the concept of AIRLIFT, which effectively mixes air bubbles into water, thereby reducing its density.
The resulting "light-weight water" is easily spewed out of drip rings, etc.
The only electricity needed is the amount to run an air-stone type pump of just a few watts.
If anyone is interested, here's the cheap (around $9 before shipping) GH device that allows adding a top feed to an existing system:

And a video on how to add it to a bucket:

I'll be adding 4 of these to each of two 4-site (after drilling), 20 Gal (probably 15 usable Gal) Botanicare reservoirs with lids.
Multiple plants in a large reservoir are easier to maintain than several individual buckets.
