New Grower Advanced Biodiesel Mass - Basic Setup

Things are progressing well. Look's like a major hurdle has been passed by, congrats.

Thanks WWWillie! I am hoping so - slowly narrowing down the culprit -
it was either gnats or genetics.

Just checked the coir compost mix for my new beans and it is a bit
too far in the alkaline at 7.0! Will have to alter that later if the
biosphere doesn't bring it down...organic apple cider vinegar perhaps -
more experiments...

I can't get a break! At least the next mix I will be able to measure
the mix before the beans go in...

Lesson 1 - listen to the experts and get the chemistry right - use
meters - not instinct!

Lesson 2 - Mix your own compost - this video is great for beginners:

Music is a bit bombastic for mixing soil - cool!

Starting to look a little happier - my best Bonsai Babe!

Looking good, Otto! :High 5:
I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the stuff on AFN - you start over analyzing - take me a while to
get all this into those aging grey cells.
I'm the same way... tons of info here, just gotta find the right groove for your grow.
A very nice recovery!! Bonsai Babe is coming on strong. If this is your first dabble into meters, just make sure to calibrate it before you trust it. :tiphat:
Reps, Otto, your doing well!!!! :slap:

Thanks for the Rep RR - I think you deserve the rep...
(I like my typography so I don't use the horrible icons on AFN -
but consider yourself rep slapped! Supposed to be a slap on the back right?)

Holding off with more photos for a few days - I'd like to have
some images where they are showing a bit of stretch - I think just
moving them a bit further from the lights was a good idea -
sometimes it is just simple things that make a difference...

I noticed your DIY and technology for your box was significantly more
sophisticated than mine - think that also makes a big difference...
I just sort of wandered into growing my own...

My meters are real simple analog devices for now - once I'm through
this grow I'll upgrade all my soil mix, nutes and meters. Then I'll have
a properly controlled environment.

Your girls must be ready for the chop soon - both a sad and joyful time I find...

Otto

Fungus Gnat Recovery

I was going to wait a few days but I just checked my girls and they have made an impressive recovery and are starting to stretch - I also moved them an inch or two away from the lights...phew! is my first reaction...

So from being stunted on the 11/11/13 till 20/11/13 they have started their spurt and put on a few centimeters in that many days. Almost doubled in size - they are astounding once they get going...

So I couldn't resist some got well photos!

Waiting game now - they look quite well formed but are five weeks old! Can't wait to see a proper canopy!

Thinking about a measuring system - we all have similar hands (about)...
so I'm going to do some new shots with my fingers/hands as measuring devices.
I think monitoring 'em that way will give more perspective - when reading
text inches/cm it can be a bit abstract...especially for new growers...and I really
got fed up going to online measuring systems - looking at photos - going back
again...arggghh!

I'm a general plant grower - if you see a tomato in your hand then you know
if it belongs in a dainty salad or sliced on a 1/4 pound burger...

Think that was also my main problem when I started checking out
AFN - I couldn't work out intuitively what size things were...

So hand measurements it will be...

So expect to see a hand monitoring system from now...

There we go...

Just before Bedtime

Thanks for the good vibes everybody! (especially RR!)

My girls just before bedtime - and I'm feeling much happier now -
still killing the odd gnat but I'm pretty sure I'm on top of the problem
now - I did a second treatment with neem and ferts - they seem a
lot happier now - getting about a 1cm/half inch a day now - that's
a bit more like it!
