My first grow was attempted in straight coco and all plants died a week and a half into the grow.

I am going to switch to soil until I have a little more experience, I was looking at buying FoxFarm Ocean Forest Organic Potting Soil, FoxFarm Happy Frog Organic Potting Soil, and Fox Farm Liquid Nutrient Trio Soil Formula: Big Bloom, Grow Big, Tiger Bloom.

Should the FFOF and Happy Frog be a 50/50 mix for the entire grow?

Also I am using two 150 watt HPS fixtures for lighting, how far from seedlings should they be?

What Cal/Mag should I use, I see many diff types on amazon but can't figure out which one for soil.

Strains are going to be Bomb Seeds Auto THC Bomb, Auto Seeds Berry Rider, Pyramid Seeds Auto Super Hash, and Grapefruit Kush.

Any advice would be appreciated, the death of my first seedlings was depressing.

I've seen people do a 50/50 mix but I really have no experience with mixing them. I'd start them in some seed starting mix and put them in that 50/50 mix at two weeks old, fox farm can be pretty hot. If I'm wrong someone will set things right. I'd also try and get some CFL'S for the first couple weeks.less watts burning and less heat as well but if not I would set my lights at 24". With less heat you can keep your soil from drying out to fast. After you transplant you'll leave them in that 50/50 mix till the end.

Will give it a try, just ordered seeds today so I still have about a week before anything can be started. Also I still have the Canna A+B and Rhizotonic from my Coco setup, can they be used in soil or should I stick with the FF Trio?

I'm not sure about the Canna nutes. Maybe some other members with some experience with that line will chime in. I would think fox farm would be better. I'm not sure if coco nutes work in organic mediums?? If your going all organic I don't think fox farm nutes are organic.

I grow with exactly the same soil and nutes.

Here's what I do:
- mix 25% perlite and the balance of well mixed equal parts HF and OF. Add 1 TBS of garden line per gallon of pot. Mix well. Water in, best if done two weeks ahead of time. Test runoff.
-hollow out center of soil about 3 inches deep, 4 inch in diameter place HF only in this hole.
-No nutes till Day 20 or so. No bloom nutes till week 5 (generally)
-I use cal-mag plus, I start around Day 28, maintenance dose pretty much throughout grow.
-flush at transition to flower (I used Sledgehammer for the first time ... I think I like it.)
-in flower, I replace the cal-mag with molasses on several feedings.

Many approaches work; there is no right/wrong way. Okay, there is one wrong way and that is not to have a reliable means of measuring pH.

Good luck with your grow!

quick message i may write more but i heard not to buy fox farm ocean mess's up your ph bad

edit: ive been told by many people to use plagron lightmix especially for beginners because its ph ready and has a lil nute in it plus has good drainage so hard to over over feed

Every time I get a bag fungus knats fly out when I open the bag. Could be cause where I get it from but I'm finished with fox farm.

I do pretty much same as bayes. check the ph of the soil before adding lime though.. sometimes the ph is spot on. just my opinion.

ph in and you can uswell on the run off, but if you feed lil ph water between feed should be good, and yeh whack the seed straight in there buddy, put it about half an inch in but dont complete fill your pot cos when it starts to grow and stretch a bit put some more soil in :D

What is the lime for? And I have these two meters which were purchased for the coco grow: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FJFEB2O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002T6L5M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Do I measure PH going in or out, do you germinate in your mix?

Sorry about all the questions, all my research was done for Coco. Am just starting researching soil.
