Hi guys iv just harvested my first ever plant and its now been drying for almost 3 days.
however as im a newbe im a little confused about the harvest and hows its drying.
the buds now have gone very very crispy on the outside and the stem isn't snapping off yet so im guessing its still wet inside, however the outside seems over dry and looks like i can crush it to dust with my hand. is this something which i need to be worried about or will the bud eventually swell up a bit and have more density to it.. just want it to start to feel like a bud which isnt dusty once crumbled

have i given it too much wind and over dried the bud on the outside as i had a small fan blowing on them,
also the box they are in isnt 100% dark, there are still a few places a minute amount of light is leaking through abut on the whole its dark.. \

thanks in advance guys :)

Hi Dave - I think you've hit the nail on the head - it's probably your fan.

I use the brown paper bag method and leave a few stems in - I'll wait until they snap (rather than bend) - this usually takes
RH Divided by 10 plus one day
So at 50% RH i'd expect my buds to be about ready in 6 days.

From there i'd pop em in a jar with a Hygrometer and check them the next day, if they are moist again and humidity is over 65%, pop them back in the bags for a day.

Hope this helps
All the best Blue ^_^

Hey Dave,

Dark is okay, absence of light is not necessary. Get the fan off of them, just make sure the air doesn't go stagnant. 60-70 degrees.

If you put them in a jar, the crispyness should go away. Then make sure you take them out of the jar each day to dry out a bit, for about a half hour. After a few hours in the jar, they should loose that crispy touch. But you don't want to over dry, so when your buds are dry to the touch, go back into the jar. after a few days of this, you should be good.

If it is over dry, it will not loose the crispness, and it would normally be airy and not compact.

Hope it helps.

Peace

no fan's on drying bud. if they are crispy on the outside, put them in paper bag's with top shut, they will spread the moisture to the to dry part's, if it has not gone on for too long. do you have a hygrometer? for knowing your rh%? this is a critical tool for knowing when it's dry."My 2 cents" good luck!:Sharing One:

hi guys u lot are just such a massive help, firstly thank u
the RH is about 30 to 35%, so im guess 4 days, however iv already had 2 full days now with a fan on them
so now shall i chop and keep in a paper bag or shal i put them in with them stems?

I cut golf ball (ish) sized nuggets and just line the bottom of the brown paper bags with them (don't overfill)

You can put some stems in on their own if you like - just a couple for snapping testers :)
4 days sounds a bit quick, but you never know. Usually 5 or 6 for me!

I throw mine in a drying rack, trim and cut almost all the stems off, leave for 4 days on average then throw into large tupperware containers and vent for the next week. I am looking into getting a CVAULT and trying that out. Its basically a humidor for your Cannabis

so im looking at them stems now and they are just bending not snapping off, few seem like the stems will snap. i guess iv just dried from outside and inside is still wet. so ur saying even at this stage cut them and put into a paper bag???

Yes Dave.

Take off the big fan leaves and as much as the sugar leaf as your are comfortable with (this is a bit of personal preference - i trim very close)
Cut them into managable sized balls - (dont have to be to crazy about it - just roughly the same size)

You will know when the stem snaps - you'll hear it - it feels like snapping a tooth pick - like a "crack" - if it bends like a straw (without the snap), it aint ready yet :)
