Hi all and welcome to my new grow journal.

After my utter failure on my last three grows to successfully use BioBizz soil and nutes I have decided to try the cheap old bastard route and use the cheapest garden centre soil and nutes (the nutes which saved my last grow).

So after a recent trip to Amsterdam I have some Barneys Pineapple express and greenhouse super critical to add to my seed collection.

I planted a seed of each Super Skunk and AKR in soil and left for 6 days - the AKR popped her head up yesterday, the SS looks dead. So I have also done the paper towel germination method on a Pineapple Express and another AKR. The plan is to pick the strongest two. The Pineapple express has popped the root so planted in soil this morning (the green drip tray).

My pots are 8 liter (I think) standard plastic - the soil is from B&Q for seeds and the nutes are general tomato with a balanced NPK.

welcome to the ride and wish me luck

Good luk, lots of grow karma sent your way!

sub'd good luck my friend :) grow karma to you :D

thanks for the love all :) hopefully the pineapple express pop her head up in the next day or two.

sending a big bucket of good grow karma your way mjdregba! bf's pineapple express is by far my favourite auto i've grown so far in terms of taste and smell, it's frickin awesome man you'll love it, didn't get a lot off the two i grew but on both occassions the jars were emptied pretty quick because i couldn't get enough of it! As for the soil, i've used plant magic supreme, bio-bizz light mix, and......asda (uk supermarket) multi purpose compost, £1 a bag for 20ltrs! It's a bit damp out of the bag but once its had a bit of an airing and i've mixed in some perlite and bat guano and a touch of lime it's doing a great job. I bought it because i was skint and needed some soil, didn't think it would perform but i'd say it's doing just as well if not better than the big brand soils. I'm rooting for you mate keep us posted!:peace:

thanks for the Karma ska'd - looks like I will needing to be taking a trip to Asda for my next grow. You say you loaded it with lime and bat guano - are you growing organically? what nutes are you using?

I use Plant magic Oldtimer grow and bloom nutes, Plant magic root stimulant and catalyst & Hesi super-vit, and plain mollasses from Holland and Barrett. So it's sort of a semi organic grow as i don't think the root stimulant is 100% organic. I haven't been using much of the grow nutes lately especially with the ASDA soil as it says it contains some feed in it already as well as lime. I just add a couple of tablespoons of bat guano and 1 tblsp of lime to each pot with perlite and mix the soil (my ratios are probably incorrect but i'm a noob so still playin around seeing what works best!) it does need a bit of an airing as it's very moist and dark straight out of the bag, but suprisingly it had less bits of wood and other junk in it than the Plant magic or Biobizz soil. I do like the Biobizz light mix though due to it having the perlite already in it (lazy sod i am!) I have noticed that mixing a small amount of bat guano into the soil has accelerated the flowering times of my plants, I have a Purple kush auto growing now 59 days since she broke the soil and i could harvest her now (she fully budded, yellowing leaves, pistols about 75% brown!) just trying to wait a bit longer to see if she plumps up a bit more.

Hi all, quick update.

Two seeds have survived - fortunately one AKR and one Pineapple express.

The AKR is about 5 days old (right in picture) and the pineapple express about 3 days (left in picture).

Interestingly I germinated both differently and both have the same success rate (50%).

The AKR I put the seed straight into the soil (along with a Super Skunk that failed) to just germinate while I was away - this took six days for it to pop its head up.

The pineapple express I used the paper towel method (along with another AKR that failed), it popped its head out of the soil in 3 days.

Also a correction on the pots - they are 6 liters.
