A noobish question; can I use buds with some mold for quiso?

You'll get many different opinions on that. If it will leave your hands (like for a patient) I wouldn't, but if it's just for you then you could try if you want. Common thought says that butane and iso won't permeate the molds body or pull anything from mold, so some people use them for any moldy bud. Having worked with mushrooms and learning about some of the nasties of the fungal world I don't think I would. Well, I probably would just to see if I could tell any difference between oil from moldy bud and clean bud of the same material, but I wouldn't consume it. Not without some refined testing showing me it's clear. As someone with breathing and allergy issues already my lungs want to start seizing at the thought of oil made from moldy bud.

Looked into it, and making vodka from scratch is a bitch, so will just use everclear, and remove last 5%.

It can be tricky getting alcohol distilled above a certain percentage at home. You might want to look into drying epsom salts to absorb the remaining water, it may make it easier.

I tried years ago to use bud with just a lite mildew from storage and you could smell the mold in the oil. It looked the same as normal but when I took a hit it tasted like shit and fucked my lungs up for a couple days. Mind you back then I had been making oil for over 5 years so it wasn't improper purging. Rata please don't believe people who refuse to throw away poison product.

How pure should the Butane be????? Have seen 5X filtered, for reasonable price. Is 7X or 9X needed???

Is there an easy, cheap way to recycle butane?? Have seen the Tamisium, which is 1600 to 20,000 dollars. Also saw skunkpharms DIY project, which is awesome, but about 1600 dollars. bhogart website has units starting at 1100 dollars. Figure it could be done with laboratory glass, but have not seen that used, yet.

short answer... No... all the closed loop systems need to be very precise and require expensive parts. The best way is to get an LP style tank and they will fill it with 99.9*% butane (depending on where you get it) Thats the cheapest way to get your butane ive discovered other than that, the 5x is more than good enough.:stylez rasta smoke: do a little research on buying bulk butane, its not too pricey, of course closed loop is awesome but we gotta work with what we got :thread:

Bhogart needs a 650 dollar air pump, so cost is 1750 dollars.

Tamisium seems better, since no pump is needed, unless the pump can be used for vacuum operations, which I have not thoroughly researched. Also comes with laser thermometer, to check temp of vapor coming out of source, and going into receptacle.

skunkpharm website has all the info you would ever want on oil production, on different scales, with different methods.

specializedformulations, who does commercial reclaiming, offers some skunkpharm equipment, already made.

skunkpharm had info about using moldy/moldy smelling weed for oil. Some could be bad for people with poor immune systems. The really nasty crap, will glow green under black light. Mine had bad smell but was left out to dry 1 day for each 10% relative humidity, the stored in containers with 65% Boveda packs meant for curing. Mine had no visible mold, but went dark for a strain that should not, and tasted harsh through vape.

I am going to use cans for now, but hate to ruin the environment, for my own personal gain. That is why I will recycle, when I can afford to.

I would think the temps used heating oil, in addition to running through solvent, and evaporating, would kill anything. But I am not an expert, but seems to make sense. If done through bong, there should be zero chance of problems.

I am not pontificating, but analyzing my observations. I could be wrong, and invite discussion.

skunkfarm suggested using a QWET, with there procedure, for first run, and the BHO. They are geniuses, and explain in simple way. Since you do not want water soluble products, dry the crap out of it (to a point), freeze it, to lock up moisture, and freeze everclear.

No money at moment, but will post when I can afford to try.

When running butane through a filled tube, how do you know when you have used enough butane?
