Well, I'm just about to embark on my first ever grow. Originally from the UK, but living elsewhere and good weed is hard to find, so it's time to get my hands dirty!
Snuck some auto Northern Lights and Critical Mass out here, and they've just (today!!) started germinating, so tomorrow they're going into the soil.
First ridiculous question (though genuine!): main growth from the seed points down in the plant pot, right? Seriously, there's no sarcasm here, real noob question!
I've built a grow space, fairly small but I'm only growing two at a time, so I think it will be ok. 1' x 2' and one meter tall. Using PC fans for venting, two bringing air in, four pushing out. Waiting for delivery of activated charcoal in order to put some really bodged filtering on the four exhausts.
8 CFLs in, blue to start with 8 reds waiting in the wings. Each one is supposed to be about 43 watts, I think I'll be ok for light.
Soil components waiting to be mixed - perlite, vermiculite, peat moss, basic soil with cow dung and also worm casts. Castes? Excrement. Keeping the soil nice and light, and no nutes for the first two to three weeks. When I do add nutes, I'll be aiming for organics. I'm not in a country where I can get specialised nutes or soil, so I have to be resourceful!!
Lights will be on 18/6, fans on 24/7. I'll be using 'water cooler' or 'water tower' water (the stuff people drink in offices) and have a temp/humidity meter plus a ph/moisture probe for the soil. Extra fan to be put in place once the girls are actually started (to strengthen the stems).
Oh, and the pots are about 24cm wide and 24cm tall.
I'll post pics of the cabinet and pics of the girls as they start to develop.
