New Grower Another First Grow Journal - Northern Lights and Critical Mass

Cannabis Seeds
Hi FC,

Thanks very much for the advice on watering. I've been settling into a four day routine, but as I said to StormsEnigma, I will ease off a bit and aim for 5-6 like you.
Big thanks for the advice!

Argh! Yellow spots on leaves!!

Hi Guys,

Well, Critical Mass has some yellow spots on her leaves. I'm 'hoping' this is burn from droplets of water after spraying - I noticed them a little a few days ago, but as the leaves are so much bigger, the issue is much more apparent.

Reading around, other options are spidermites (I checked the underside of the leaves but could see nothing, except in one case where the yellow spots were giving way to minute holes - so I could see them!), pH (steady 6/6.5) or nute burn (no added nutes, but I do have worm castings mixed in with the soil)

Do any of you have a clear idea what it might be?

Northern Lights is doing fine, no sign of yellow spots, although if I was being paranoid, I might say the edges of the largest leaves are a little too curled upward for my liking.

Any advice or suggestions, as always, very gratefully received!! yellow-spots-on-leaves.jpg

Pics From Day 16

Hi All,

Girls are doing well. Northern Lights is considerably smaller, but still growing every day, so I'm not worried. Critical Mass (nicknamed Crystal Meth by my girlfriend) is growing at an insane rate.

Yellow spots have not increased in number, so I'm fairly confident the issue was burning due to tiny drops of water (despite gently drying leaves with toilet paper after each watering). When I water again, I will do it during lights out, so there's much less danger.

Waiting for next water until the bottom of the pot reads DRY AS ALL HELL on the moisture meter!!!

Ok, here they are:

Also, Critical Mass now smells.....familiar :)

No sir, don't water in lights out.... Do you eat in your sleep? The plants don't take kindly to being watered during or right before lights out, it can cause some stunting issues.

Make sure they're nice and ready before you water, get familiar with your wet pot weight and dry pot weight.. Lightly push the sides of the pot in before you water and don't be afraid to manipulate the plant to avoid getting water on it.

When the spots originate from the veins on the leaver probably an issue with the soil. They re looking healthy but a little small for 3 weeks. Should start a growth spurt now.

Latest (late!) Update

Hi Guys,

Sorry it's been a while since I posted an update, missed out a few happenings.
I took WG's advice and did not water with the lights out. Switched from spraying to pouring water from a watering can without a 'rose' on the spout. Although I may not be soaking the soil as efficiently, the yellow spots have not reappeared, so fairly content that my initial instinct (burn from water drops magnifying the light) was correct.

And a week ago (give or take) we had flowers!!

So these latest shots are from day 33, with both the plants flowering. Critical Mass has a ton of bud sites, Northern Lights (being considerably less developed) has far fewer.

At this stage, I really don't mind. I have indeed taken on the mindset of 'first grow/learning process' and I'm just happy that they're looking like they'll bear fruit. I was considering trimming back some of the fan leaves, but consensus seems to be to leave them, so I have not trimmed.

Having to water more frequently (had one day with NL looking very depressed, a bit of water sorted her out) - can't keep to the 5/6 days in between hydration.

Everything seems to be going well - I was too late to start SCROGging or LSTing - next time I will grow one single Northern Lights and gear the whole grow towards SCROG (including trimming the tips to promote more bud-sites). Considering this is day 33, these girls may well deliver around the 60 day mark, but I'm not too impatient. Excited, but not impatient :o)

As always, any advice or feedback will be VERY gratefully received, but aside from nutes every other water (which amounts to nutes once every 8 days or so) I'm pretty much letting them do their own thing.

Could do with some advice here regarding watering.
In my last post I said that I was unable to keep to the 5/6 days between watering. It now seems to have gone down to only two or three days.

Once Northern lights gets dry, she starts to droop significantly, so I'm watering much more often now.

Is this to be expected when they are flowering? Or is it simply that changing to a stream of water (as opposed to spraying or sprinkling) means that the run through is a lot quicker and the pot is not getting saturated?

Any advice would be great, thanks guys.
