Ok, so after planting my seedlings in the greenhouse I have since discovered that there is now an infestation of ants... Millions of the buggers, red and black.. Will these be detrimental to my grow in any way or need I not worry?

Ants wont eat your bud.
but they carry an spread aphids an other bugs do.

So I should try to get rid of them right?

I think I have some ant powder kicking about, is that ok to use or will it affect my babies?

They will get stuck and die on nice sticky buds. I had a sudden infestation as soon as spring rolled around and found about 20 stuck all over one of my plants!

Good advice in this thread. Ants farm aphids for their honey dew and a bad aphid infestation can seriously damage or stunt a smaller pot plant. Best to try and get rid of the ants to keep the aphids away. :peace:

After doing a little research on what GanjiBC said about getting rid of the aphids, there are many different organic ways to get rid of them (I dont fancy using pesticide on or near my babies) I have read that one of the best forms of Aphid control (other than soap and olive oil, which I do not fancy using either!) is ladybugs..

You can actually buy them online

(http://www.greengardener.co.uk/product.asp?id_pc=34&cat=75) so going to go down that route me thinks..

Growing weed and farming ladybugs lol . If it works, it works! :)

Ants hate em...they'll bring aphids, white flies, etc. aerate the roots but could also do damage down there...some organic tricks to get rid of them find some food grade DE Diatomaceous Earth this will cut there exoskeletons and dry them out all bugs...ants will try to avoid walking on it but their fkd after doing it, also is a source of Silica and other micro nutrients.
borax mix it with either sugar, syrup, jelly... Put it in corners or away from plants, in bottle caps, or something other than direct on the soil..acts as a bait, if its too strong they will die trying to take it home, mixed right they'll get it home to da queen where they will try to have a feast and all will die, lil punks are smart too though they can learn and stay away from it..it's its too strong or too weak..mixing rates can find on the net cant remember exactly how I did it b4.

Then if you don't want to go the org route...then maybe Sevin Insect Granules..will kill alot of diff bugs and ants..some ants it won't ...it's Suppose to be safe for veggies etc..up to couple days to weeks before harvest..hope fat helps.
