I somehow have a random tiny little shoot with cotyledons that's started growing beside my couple of week old xxl amnesia, there was only one seed planted, how could this be?

I'd have to say I'm doubtful based on mine appearing well into flower and yours after a couple weeks. Maybe brought in from outside somehow but I'm not sure. Pluck it

Some swear by planting a 'cover crop', usually variants of clover, alongside their plants in same pot

I've had this a few times it's just a stow away uzally a bean plant that was in ure soil/coco waiting on the day it's got heat/water and light

Along with unwanted plants that get into soil mix I have also encountered insects as well .An on the web there is some crazy claims about extremely harmful mites in batches of a certain soil manufacturers soil .The only way to avoid this is to either sterilize your soil with a oven or steam sterilization works as well .
