What ever works best for you mate. One in at bottom, One out at top, but even then, one out might not be needed, if you use one of those big old fans blowing air in, put your hand over the vent hole and you might feel hot air gushing out being forced out by the cold air which is heavier and denser.
The filter is entirely optional.

im going for small fans, gonna have to look up some stuff, im trying to make it silent, its not just my sister, but i will have friends over from time to time and i prefer to not let a soul know, loose lips sink ships, so quiet and not smelly is a big goal for me here haha

i looked at the NZXT fans and they are for computers right? wouldnt those need some special wiring to plug into a standard outlet?

Yup theyre for Pc. Molex, is what im using right now to type this, got a airflow king case for my pc,its just two wires, Black n Red. Just crimp them onto a 12v Converter, like the same as LED cooling fans. Or, get a small pc power pack and molex them. Screw the power pack onto your cab. Or get a USB fan and plug that into either your pc, laptop or get a usb 5v adapter plug.

Ok, I'm no expert on wiring, but I have 2 xbox fans from old consoles I can possibly use, I stripped this old phone charger but the xbox fan has a red, black, blue, and brownish yellow set of wires, can this work?
