Hello growers,

I’m a new grower with just one soil grow behind me. I got a few seeds from a buddy called “Ayahuasca”. I think they’re from Barney’s Farm, but I’m not completely sure😃

I started two of these seeds in Biobizz Light Mix Peat Free, but things didn’t go well. The seeds were started using the paper towel method, but the plants ended up brown and stunted for about three weeks. For my first grow, I used garden soil, and the plants grew without any issues.

I was ready to throw these out, but instead, I transplanted them into a 50/50 coco/perlite mix and started watering once a day to runoff with Terra Aquatica Tri-Part at 350 ppm. I buffered the coco twice with 0.4 EC CalMag and pH 6.0, and I’m using distilled water for now (waiting on my RO filter). At first, the plants were pretty much brown with just a single green leaf each. But after a week in coco, they started looking like completely new plants.

I’ve been reading through the 420autoflower thread about SCROG, and it’s impressive what he’s managed with autoflowers. I want to learn more about his technique, and after this grow, I plan on trying autoflowers myself. But before that, I really want to figure out the best way to water coco.

At first, I watered the coco once a day, then bumped it up to three times a day and the plants started growing well. Now, though, the leaves are looking droopy. Maybe overwatered? Here’s what I’m using right now:

Nutrients:
-Terra Aquatica Micro (soft water)
-Grow
-Bloom
-Cannazym (leftovers from my first grow)
-Canna Calmag (I start with 50 ppm. Not sure if I should increase it, or if the Micro covers it)

Totals
-400 ppm
-pH 6.0

Runoff today is 460 ppm and pH 6.04. Pot size is 500 ml. Should I transplant now or wait? I was thinking of moving to a 3L pot next, then finally to a 20L fabric pot with coco/perlite.

Current environment:
-Kingbrite 800W Evo, 400-450 PPFD at 45cm
-22-23 °C, 65–70% RH (it’s summer, but not too hot)
-Oscillating fan
-Humidifier
-Room size 2.5 x 2.5 meters
-Fresh air from the home’s ventilation system

I have an automatic watering system on the way, similar to what 420autoflower uses. Planning to run DTW, since I don’t think I could handle a recirculating setup like he does.

These plants are in week 3 now, one week recover included. And this is a second day that I brought them indoor. It's cold outside,🥶 My question: how should I water the coco? Should I let it dry out, or keep watering multiple times a day with runoff each time? I keep reading that you can’t really overwater coco with perlite, but the drooping leaves have me second guessing things.

Sorry if this is hard to read. I’ll try to keep updating every week. Thanks in advance for any advice👊🍀

Welcome to AFN @GreatWhite :d5: Your plants are too big to overwater in coco at this point. Can only really overwater seedlings. Never let your coco dry out. As far as transplanting, it's gonna depend on what your roots look like but let the plants be healthy for a while before messing with them. Young plants don't like stress. You can also up your feed to 500ppm at this point. Ph 5.8:pass: Automatic feeding is the way to go with coco and there's no need for pots bigger then 2 gallons, I use 1 gallon plastic bags

If its from Barneys Farm, its Ayahuasca Purple. It's a frosty strain, will stay relatively short but stack up very nicely.

I dont grow in coco but from what I understand once the top starts to dry out you can water to about 15% runoff. And you should feed with every watering.

My buddy gets seeds from Barney's I've asked today. So probably it is what you say.

Thanks so much😊 So it doesn't matter if it's auto flower or photo for the pot size?
It depends on how big you want the plant to be, most autos will do fine in a 3-5 gallon pot, 11-20 liters. I dont plant photoperiod plants in anything less than 5 gallon or 20 liter pots. Usually I do a 1.5-2month veg and that pot size is perfect for seed to harvest with a veg cycle that long. If I were going longer veg I would probably bump it up to a 7 gallon or 25-30 liters.

Thanks😁I plan to veg 8 weeks for this one. I like to veg through the summer and flower in autumn. Less humidy issues then. Last summer I veg 3 months outside and brought inside to flower.

Sounds like a plan. Only thing about going from outside to inside is you bring the outside with you. I wish I could grow outdoors but unfortunately I cannot.

This time I'm going to grow only inside. Last time when I brought them inside there was crazy trips invasion. Battled them forever but made it. Now only indoors. Still going to veg for 8 weeks because I have two plants only and I want better yields.

With the right space and the right training 2 plants can give you a lot. On a typical photo grow with a 2 month veg with the right training 2 plants should produce at least half a pound of top shelf buds.
