New Grower Backyard: Chaze and Candy Kush

This year I will be attempting my first grow. My house is on a 5 acre lot in the country, so I have more than enough room to do a backyard grow. I may be starting this journal a little early, but I started the real prep today, so I figured I'd start a journal too.

I already have my seed:
-3 x Flash Seeds Chaze (fem)
-5 x Auto Seeds Candy Kush (fem)

One of the CK's was cracked when I got it, so I'll probably only have 4, if I'm lucky. I may only run 2 Chaze and keep one in case I run into trouble with the other two.

I'll germinate my seeds in about two weeks and hopefully have them in the ground in three. I'll be germinating the seeds in peat pellets.

I mixed up my soil today:

-28L peat moss
-50L black earth
-16L perlite
-35L manure compost
-1/3 cup crushed/powdered egg shells
-1 cup crushed/powdered Kellogs Vector cereal

Total cost for soil mix came to about $25, dirt cheap. I put it all in a 55 gallon black plastic drum and soaked it with about 10-15L of manure compost tea and covered it. It will sit in the sun and cook for the next 3 weeks. If the mix seems too hot, I have a pile of top soil that I can cut it with. Any suggestions are welcome.

I have high hopes and low expectations for this grow. I will be posting picture when I actually start the seeds.

I have since added to the substrate. Some bone/blood meal, dolomitic lime and epsom salt.

5 minutes ago I dropped 2 Chaze beans in a glass of water. Call me a nerd, but I never thought putting 2 seeds in some water could be so damn exiting! My heart was going, and I got all giddy. I ran straight upstairs to the computer, just to update this.

The fun has just begun...

I checked them this morning. They had sunk to the bottom of the glass, so I put them in some peat pellets and placed them in a warm spot. Now I play the waiting game.

Hey brother, have you checked up on our Organic's forum? We have some great on site organics users..

Are you going to check the pH of the soil before planting in it? You're going to keep your plants in little peat pots for 2 weeks? ..

I have been on the organics forum. The nice folks there have given me lots of advice on my soil mix.
After sprouting, I plan on putting them in the ground under a cloche. Hopefully by the weekend.

I checked on the Chaze seeds today. I gently brushed back some of the peat covering them, and both have tap roots! I covered them back up. I won't disturb them again.
I then put my five Auto Seeds Candy Kush seeds in water to soak overnight. Tomorrow morning, or after work, I'll put them in peat pellets along side the Chaze.

About to start my first grow also, I also live in the country and will be doing a backyard grow. Im doing 3 Candy Kush, 3 Trans Siberian and 2 auto hijack...Hope the best for your grow and will be watching..cant wait to see how they turn out
