Been lurking on AFN since October 1st. There is so much knowledge here I feel somewhat overwhelmed. My husband is on his 3rd grow (all autos) and this time I have taken an interest and am participating. He flies by the seat of his plants but has managed still to keep us in smoke for almost 2 years so he must be doing some things right without expert help, just a couple of books.
Mostly what I have learned here in the past month are all the things we have been doing wrong lol, from not ordering from a good seed bank (apparently), to not getting our environment set up optimally (we really battled heat and high temps for a few weeks), to having plants that come no where near to comparing to what I see here.
Anyway, I don't want to write a book for my intro so will just get on with it and say we have a 4ft x 8ft x 7ft tent, a 1000w hps light, a 1000w MH light that we had to ditch for a 400w hps light because we couldn't control the heat, a 4-T12 flourescent fixture for seedlings first 10 days or so, a big carbon scrubber and 3 inline fans that we never could get into a ducting configuration that kept the heat down (so one side of our tent stays open most of the time.) Now that the weather outside is cooling off the temps in the tent are much better. Husband likes smoking different strains and prefers to deal with several smallish plants as opposed to 3-4 bigger plants so right now we have a few that are about 9 wks old that should be ready to harvest soon, plus a couple that are about 6 wks old, plus some seedlings going - 4 different strains in total.
So, we are all in and have invested quite a bit of money lately, but there is SO MUCH we could be doing better, and I am making it my job to learn how we can accomplish that. Now I just need to get my other half to follow instructions lol. Thanks for letting me ramble on. Looking forward to learning more and putting it into practice. Happy Halloween!
