Hello all in the AFN community
I am new to the forum and also new to growing, I have been following some of the threads in here and there is an amazing amount of growing knowledge being passed around by the more experienced people.

Can anyone tell me what is the best height for my light to be above the plant top?
I am currently using 1 65 watt Blue spectrum cfl for veggy growth and my plant is now in its 16th day and has shown her 4th leaves at approx. 1.5 inches tall.
I think she is a wee bit behind as I caused some root damage while germinating and putting into the soil for the first time.
However, my opinion is that although she is now looking to be well in recovery should I have the grow light low or higher
Sorry cant do a pic yet needs batteries for my camera
Glad to have found this great web site

:coffee2:Aloha Broadsword~
and welcome welcome to AFN! I'mma noob too to Autos and have never grown under CFL's, butttt...
check out the CFL growing section as it is full of valuable and essential info.
you've come to the right place so just settle in, grab a beverage of your choice, and get to some reading (when you get a chance, of course)!

again, welcome aboard. glad to have ya!

Hello Broadsword,

same here, no knowledge of cfl's. But the answer is out there somewhere. And I'm sure one of the good guys here will help you out.

Welcome, eP.

Broadsword- Generally speaking, you can get a CFL somewhere between like...3-4" away...I think. I know they don't give off a lot of heat, so you can put them much closer to your plants than if you were using a(n) HPS or something of the like.. But DON'T quote me lol because like I said, I'm not sure how much truth there is to that statement....It's been a while since I've used CFL and I smoke a lot of pot hahaha :smoke:

Thanks for that, I have it around 9 inches above right now as it is 1 light now being shared with 2 plants

Another thing regarding CFL- since you DID say you were new to the grow scene....are we talking 65 ACTUAL watts or 65 EQUIVALENT watts?
In either case, Ima go head and say you need to get some more light on your baby.
The general rule of thumb with CFLs is- 100w for one plant, 50 more watts for each extra plant.

its 65 actual watts,
I looked up the stats for it, apparently it has the incandescent equivalent of 325 Watts. 6400k and 4300 lumens.
