Lighting BlackStar The Manual

I say this not to offend any BS240 owners. After looking at the guts of the BS240 I personally scratched them off my buy list. I have 20+ years of experience in the electronic field. The way they are designed if ONE LED fails it takes out half the light. They have no finned heatsinking at all. They rely only on the board the led's are mounted to for heat extraction(plus the fans).

Not offended at all, I know I'm shopping on the middle shelf. If I had the money for the top shelf stuff I wouldn't have a blackstar, I'd have a California light work's solar storm.

Kinda like drinking Jameson or Bullet. It's not the best thing on the shelf by far, but it does the job well for the price :buds:

You can get a sp110d for less price than a bs240. Current draw is a little less but with the lenses PAR is better.

If your gonna discuss this further can you start another thread please guys

:point:

Thermal management is an issue for every LED manufacturer. Turtle did have a good point that electronics specialists know when something is properly heat sinked and when its just thermal taped to a slab of really cheap aluminum, i.e. recycled cans. My third party LED has the same get up, and I posted pictures of the guts here. LED's die less quickly when they're run cooler - we're trying to lower the junction temperature if you really wanna know - the hottest part of the diode when it's on. I know these have been in service for years, but high junction temps can cook an led like you're vaping it.

I have a bs 240uv and currently use that with a cfl for veg. I'm getting another light and can't decided between a 500w either uv or Ho. Or should I get another 240uv along with a 240ho?
So I would have 1 240uv and 1 500uv or ho, or 2 240uv and 1 240ho... I'm thinking 3 lights are better then 2

just did a quick scroll through 20 pages and i couldnt find anything about the 100w blackstar.
seems everyone on here has the BS 240 + or the chrome etc. (aside from shaun who has the ufo)

looking to someday upgrade and add an led set up to the PC with a 100w blackstar LED

fits perfectly in the PC and its about 7" in diameter. it shouldnt have any bleaching or bad effect considering the height distance issue?
