Buds are turning brown, yet it does not appear like a bud rot to me,
I believe that I had bud rot when drying buds in the past
The browning started with the top buds & is sporadically effecting others
The brown buds look faded green when under a digital microscope light
The climate is cold & very wet, but the ladies have been kept out of rain except for 2 hours on 1 day
The smell of the buds is sweet, not musty/bad. They are not gooey.
The ladies have been growing outdoors in pots but in the cold
Any thoughts/ideas & are the buds safe to use when harvested?

Unfortunately it does look like bud rot...But...you mention outdoor...I get a caterpillar that attacks individual buds and rots them from the inside.
It is the right time of the year...I've just need dealing with it on mine.... :headbang:

Pull one of the affected buds off...and have a look to see if it looks as if there is a little nest hole in it...or any caterpillar crap or nibbled leaves near it.

If it is caterpillar...I'd remove the affected bud and smoke the rest.

If it is mold...I'd bag the plant up and throw it...but I'm a bit of a mold phobic.....so wait for some better answers...:headbang:..good luck..

This is mine..

View attachment 1763123. You see the necratised bud...and caterpillar leaf damage around it.... :headbang:..

Nice Black you have there...:pass:
Your photo looks very similar. I have had caterpillars on my first outdoor grow & put 'Slugs & Snails Barrier tape'(copper coated tape) around the pots & have not had any more leaf damage IMHO after.

I've had the copper tape on my pots too...but it is a tiny brown moth that lays the eggs in the bud..... :headbang:

Will look for that tiny brown moth, but will probably only do indoor from now on as I had black aphids near end of grow last year.
Indoor has only given me novice issues so far.
Great community - thanks again Bud
