Hi guys, I'm pretty confused when talking about cobs because the only electronic work I know is how to change guitar pickups. I was told it's extremely easy.. I plan on doing a 3-4 plant grow so I'm wondering is 200 will suffice to build strong enough light for that. I was going to go with 600w HPS but the whole heating issue is just way to much to worry about not to mention the fire risk. Will I be able to build a powerful enough light for this?

Hey man, I've worked on guitar pots myself. As far as COBs go, think of it as a Prius but with muscle to match the gas mileage. The AutoCobs I got from @BigSm0 produce a little more heat than regular LEDs as far as I can tell (I haven't done an isolated test w/o my MARS yet) but they are far more efficient and produce less heat than an HPS that I can tell you. That's all I can really say. Will wait for Sm0 to enlighten (hehe) some more.

To replace 600w of hps I would go with 200w of Cree or citizen cobs. Those amazon and eBay ones are not real cobs and offer no benefit over cheap leds. https://www.autoflower.org/threads/autocob-grow-with-big-sm0-and-mephisto.57154/ This is my current 220w grow with 4 'plants. Goes to show quality and high efficiency pays off. @NugNoob a watt is equal to 4.31btu of heat no matter if it's hps, LED or cobs. The benefit with good cobs is you need less wattage to equal the same amount of light. Less wattage is less heat. Cobs produce a different type of heat but the end product is that it's all heat in one form or another. Convection, conduction or thermal radiation. Hope it helps and thanks for the shout
