Grow Room Cheap LED's

I wonder if osram lamps are good... ive been told that sylvania's have been proved to be the lower lumen output in the market, but never had a reply about osram's...

Plus, its not all about lumen output, but the color spectre itself... cos they can have the same color temperature, but they might lack some color spectre... which would screw the plant's development.

Does anyone here use osram as setup?

By the way, great topic!

yea Muddy, i believe my next light will be the new Spectra 180.

It seems to give around the yield of 250-400w hps, Totally perfect for autos.

Uses like half the power as my ps3, and no 12/12.

beat that:smokeit:

What size is your grow area? They work best when you stay within their core penetration. I agree, LED and autos are a great match.

yea i mean a small space in general, just something like you would use a 250w maybe a little more in. ideally a nice little 2x2 possibly even 3x3 would be great with a nice panel.

I believe the spectra 180 i want has almost a core of 2x2

& YES Totally mud, LED & AUTOS are the future

One company, Haight Solid State I believe, now has units available using 15 watters. Very expensive of course, but it does illustrate how this technology is evolving.

Hi Muddy,

It appears when you get bitten by the LED bug ya just gotta scratch it.

Have you done any research regarding Haight and their new Solid State PPF-400Rv2 LED Grow light? This fixture is designed to be a perfect fit for a 2'X2' grow tent and I just wanted to get your opinion, the price is right too.

If the feedback is good and there are no horror stories, I'll order one next week.

Thanks -RF

Hey mate,I think that's alot of money for a 90w light, especially compared to other panels on the market you could get alot more watts for your money.i grow in a 2x2x5 foot tent and use a 180w blackstar, decent results but in hindsight I'd buy a 240w just to get that extra penetration.Iv now bought some cheap supplemental t5 lighting to hit those lower buds

Hi Red,

I have a modest background in electricity, but I understand that solid-state is the future; it's what made LED's attractive to all facets of electronics in the first place. That being said, the LED grow light industry is going through advances in tech while not really knowing how best to apply it, and there are all the rip-off's to contend with.

Anyway, IMHO the Blackstar is good example of first generation technology which has matured while larger wattage solid-state illumination like Height is the future.

What is interesting to me is the fact that in my application (2'X2') they don't recommend purchasing any fixture bigger than the 400... And that is even when it is their best interest to sell larger fixtures. Honestly, I was first looking at the 800 and they directed me back to the 400. Well looks like I'm sold.

Thanks - RT

BTW... I've seen the 400 as low as $299 online.

For whatever reason, Haight hasn't caught on with auto growers. I don't know of anyone here using their lights. About a year and a half ago when I was researching to buy my first LED I looked at what they had available. I compared them to GLH and one or two others and settled on the GLH. Price was about the same but I felt the GLH was the better light. So far, I couldn't be happier with it. I do think 90 watts is not near enough for a 2 x 2' area. I didn't see any detailed specs but before buying I would find out specifically what they mean by 90 watts. Is that the actual output or just the total of the LEDs they are using. Most manufacturers don't drive their LEDs at 100% power and a 90 watt light might only be outputting 65 or 70 actual watts. As a general rule of thumb, 50 watts per square foot is needed.
