If you wanted to go with less cobs you would sacrifice efficiency which leads to more heat and less light. But the 50w seems to be the average most people tend to run their cobs at. Either way I can set you up a list at 25 or 50 watts if you'd like.

A comparison would be interesting but not needed. there are grows out there now with these lights, these cobs. I'm on my first grow with one. This 300 watt, DIY Citizen COB based light is totally destroying anything my 685 true watts of chinese burple light ( three of them to get this output... ) did!. I've got colas, not grapes for buds!

Nah, anyone thats a member is too cheap to cough up the cash... Its hard to believe seeing it for myself that anyone with a modest set of skills would opt out of the chance to get that much performance for that little outlay. I guess if you like to show off your grow online the big lights look mighty good. And they DO work, but I am now struggling hard to justify the difference between the two with my kind of budget. Even if the really high end lights get a greater yield, how much versus the DIY or Kit cobs would be a nice thing to make a comparison with. In the end, if you are just growing for yourself it is all about how much quality bud you can get for a minimum of outlay. I aint in it for the bragging rights. I just want to enjoy the fruits of my labors. I think a lot of my fellow Auto enthusiasts are pretty much the same.

And in my eyes these low cost cob engines get it done.

I don't know..... now that they've tested that beast, the 3618, a single cob could replace a 400 watt HPS! at roughly the same cost and twice as efficient!

I don't think their should be a rush to get into citizen or Cree but I do think they pay themselves off in short time with larger grows. Especially the clu048's. The 058's do get pricey and are really beneficial in higher wattages. There is much out there as far as efficiency goes on your cobs so making "worth it" determination is tough as far as performance goes. For a 4-8 cob grow 10-20% isn't going to change much. When you start adding wattage with a calculator then they may make a big enough difference. As long as the lights and yield is there then it's less important if you draw an extra 50 watts. Like you said None of this really matters if your satasfied with the yield.

150w light meanwell hlg-185h-48a this will give you 3 cobs at 50w each or 4 cobs at 38watts each

He has 35,50,80 and 100 watt heatsinks to fit which ever driver/cob combo you choose.


Now all these items can be upgraded for a little more money but this is basically the cheapest option.
Cobs efficiency increases as you step up higher and higher. But with this the drivers need to be increased too and heatsinks.

Probably a simple question but I have been looking at 1212s is there a real difference between 80 & 90 CRIs? Will 4000k work as well as 3500k? The 3500k seem to be sold out most places I have looked.
