Grow Room Closet air control and odor

Hi,
I have a project for a 60x100x200 cm closet that will have a space of 1.2m3 of grow space, since this is my first project and grow, I'm pretty clueless of what to get as an carbon filter and ventilation ( among everything else).
So I got some questions.
-How should I decide for a carbon filter?
-And after that I what should I get for an extractor,?
If it's to weak it won't be able to suck of the carbon filter?
If it's to strong will the filter be able to clean the air?

Any ideas or inputs would be appreciated.

The main thing is get a fan controller that allows you to turn the extractor fan down. You don't need a gale being sucked through there, just gentle air replacement. You can get by fine with a 4" filter and matching fan with that small a space, but you could also use a 6" setup and turn it down to near minimum. Either will work fine. I used a 6" canfan and 6" Vivosun filter in my 2X4, and it worked a treat.

small space dont need much more than a cheap 4" fan £14 and equally cheap filter £18 avoid bends and extra lenght,and clean or replace before dont forget a circulation fan £10 speed controller £12 depending on climate maybe a heater £20 an inkbird £30 better than a speed controller if heat and cold needed

ona block,gel,liquid is nice to have around
an automatic thing pointed at yer front door to
good luck n keep er lit

Hi, both at the same time. One is the filter, the other the extraction fan. I already had the fan because I picked it up used at a junk store some time earlier for another purpose. Since I already had the fan, I got a 6" filter to match. If I hadn't had the fan sitting there, I would have gone with the 4" option. The larger system uses more room, but the filter will last longer than a 4" one would, and other than size and cost, there is no downside that I can see.

Since you are short on space, you could consider mounting the fan outside your grow space rather than inside it, and you might want to place the filter low down beneath the canopy where it would not prevent plants from filling in up high. As long as you are using fan(s) to circulate air inside the tent, extracting down low will work fine.

Once you get set up, use the fan controller to keep the fan turned down low - if you can't smell the weed outside the tent, the fan is not too low. The lower the air flow, the longer the filter will last. Even at a very low setting, the air in the tent will be replaced often enough to provide CO2 to the plants. You will use the fan setting to adjust temperature and humidity.

I have an even smaller space, 50x50x100cm, and for ages I have had problem figuring out odour control due to space constraints. I've finally found a solution in two powerful PC fans (Noctua NF-F12 PWM) stacked directly on top of a rhino 4"/100mm hobby filter. Was really surprised to see that they actually pull through it (I think you could even use 1 fan - 2 may be overkill), and my smelly ass Mephisto plants aren't a problem anymore! Hope that helps somewhat, but with your space maybe you'll need a bigger fan.

@old_wheezy Just wanna jump in here and say that it's good to hear with your setup that it filters the smell so well - I've got a RAM 4in filter kit on it's way but it sounds like I have the potential to increase grow space size a lot without needing a new filter. Current setup is 40x40x100cm.

The general rule of thumb is that all the air in the grow space should be replaced at least once per minute - you can do a simple calculation to get your required m3/h.

Gunna say on the fan stacking - this actually makes them worse than individual, as each fan is fighting against turbulence created by the other fan. According to Noctua's website one of those fans moves 93.4m3/h (with very good static pressure), so you are probably fine with one.

@wh1t3hat Thanks for the reply! I'm impressed with the filter as it was cheap (£25), although saying that it is pretty enormous compared to the tent. I assume you'd be able to upscale a fair bit with it before you needed a bigger one; whether or not it would last very long is something that remains to be seen.

RE fan stacking, I thought that might be the case. I'd read elsewhere ages ago that they don't work well in series, but when I tested it seemed like I was getting more airflow through the filter with 2. I've since removed one as my RH was getting a bit low (50%~), and I've kept negative pressure so all good! Wish these fans were better known, as people really love to say you can't use PC fans for filtering. Getting an inline fan was just out of the question for me, so I took a chance - lo and behold the fuckers were wrong! Will post something in Micro Growing soon and tag you, got a couple plants finishing up so it's a good time
