Lighting COB lights

@Tang Could you expand on why you think the multi diode COB is not going to be persistent tech? Just curious.

LED tech is still very new bro and I think the lights in say 5-10 years time will be unrecognisable to use, I think COB are part of the evolution but I think even better stuff is to come.

Well they are going cheap on ebay another 1200 watt went for 439.00 US unbelievable 1200 watts of led for under 500 US things are looking really BRIGHT for the future od indoor LED growing

In the mid to late 1980's I had a passing dalliance with electronics and gained a number of qualifications in the field, all sadly forgotten, it just wasn't for me but at the time did it because I thought it was the future. I guess it is, but not for me, I had other passions to follow.

Getting to the point at the time LED's were incredibly basic , Tri coloured LED's were the latest tech. I even remember people debating if a blue LED would ever be made lmao.

Things have come along way since then and are still advancing but now that advancement is at a much faster rate and the applications are becoming more and more common place from high bay, flood lights, tv's and even head lights for motor vehicals, it was not that long ago that LED were only used for tail lights.

COB/Intergrated array Grow lights have only been around for just a few years, a relitively short time in the 8 or so years I have been following the progression of LED grow lights.

It is not that long ago that you would here the term "chinese knock off ufo's" and people saying you'll never grow good buds with LED as they were only disco lights and nothing would best HPS.

A vast majority of LED's are made in China of course some are better than others, but at least "chinese knock off" is no longer bandied around as the go to statement from people who have never had any experience with LED, as there are now many excellent grows demonstrating LED's can grow awesome buds.

Times & tech have changed and will keep changing.

We have all now seen LED can grow excellent buds and that is gonna keep getting better.
As TaNg mentioned we are witnessing the Evolution of this tech, some things will disappear, new things will come and sometimes they will also become hybrids.

This is a very exciting time for LED and LED growers and we are waiting with baited breath to see the new GN LED lights, but we also know that they too will become the tech of yesteryear as advancements are made.

Weather COB/Intergrated arrays remain a viable option for growing weed in the future will depend on weather the tech can be advanced to a suitable level to keep up with other LED advancements.

The one thing it does have in it's favor is it's easy buildability for light manufacturers - chip, driver , heat sink , fan (or no fan if it is passively cooled) & mains plug.

COB/Intergrated array may hang on in there for a while yet as a budget choice, where other new LED tech because it is cutting edge will cost more initially but it should also give superior performance and use less power.

What the future will bring, no one knows but it is gonna be damn exciting finding out.

I just slapped you with rep bro or I would hit you right again you have away of explaining led's keep up the great explanations. It is the dawn of a new era super autos led grow lights that work and are not going to break the bank. Time to overgrow all goverments

You know guys I feel no matter where the future lies for LED grow lights be it Cob , single diode, diode clusters or some unrecognisable unit like Tang feels we will be heading for, do you not think that we will not see the best from these units in till we have a nutrient line that is designed for growing with LED ?

I wonder if there are enough people converted to led yet to make it worth doing yet?

Only problem with light development is the pinch point will eventually come where the lights produce enough light at low power to make any further r&d nonviable commercially.

Then we've all got to wait for laser grow lights controlled by a computer called HAL!

Something I was wondering a few years back, "who would be the first to make an auto flowering nute first"

Funny thing I was looking at one today Dutch pro are doing one - http://www.onestopgrowshop.co.uk/nu...ow-hydro-coco-a-and-b-hard-water-1-litre.html

I know sweet seed were going to release one but could not find a manufacturer to make it to their exacting standards. It is a shame they won't be releasing it.

there may be others out there and I guess we will see some more in the future as cannabusiness is big business with lots of niches yet to fill.

the led makers seem to follow the DIY crowd and many in that group are using COBs http://www.rollitup.org/t/diy-led-grow-lights-with-cree-cxa3070-cobs-and-cpu-coolers.805681/ they have been using white leds with good success so you may see more units on the market like those in the future this is an evolving feild and there is no consenses on what works best.it may be like growing where there is no one best way to do things.https://www.thcfarmer.com/community/threads/diy-led-with-cobs-small-medium-and-large-grows.64252/ this is one of the leadersin the DIY feild
