OK so here goes, my first coco grow. Not sure if i have bitten off more than i can chew but for my second ever grow ive chosen to go coco. Of the two seeds, the NL X BB will be used as a direct comparison to the one i have growing in soil. This plant is now 30 days old and can be seen here https://www.autoflower.org/f5/world-seeds-northern-lights-x-big-bud-grow-31534.html

Both NL X BB are in the same conditions and are using canna nutes, terra and coco respectively. As well as rhizotonic, cannazym, pk 13/14,canna boost, bud candy and cal mag. I am also using canna for both the soil and coco mediums. Same volume pots but different shapes. The coco is in a shorter but wider pot, my thinking is with the larger surface area it will dry out a bit quicker allowing me to feed it more regularly.

The plants will be grown inside a 1.2 x 2.4 x 2.4metre tent, ebay special lol. Inside the tent are a carbon filter, silencer and 150 mm centrifugal fan. This is ducted into the roof cavity. Air con is ducted into the tent to lower humidity and stabilize temps.

The lighting is a 600 true watt led panel and a 600 watt hps. I have found the plants to respond well to led in veg and the hps better in flower. The soil grow is probably two weeks from moving under full hps, at the moment it is recieving light from both sources.

The other seed is Royal Queen Jack Herer and i will include that plant in this diary as well, grown in coco.

Today is day one and i will update when there is something to show, cheers for reading.

Looking forward to seeing the results

But I have a question. Wouldn't the experiment be better with clones? In order to do a true comparison wouldn't everything have to be the same expect 1 change?

The two seeds maybe two different phenotypes

Hey Realcarlos, thanks for reading and welcome, the idea of the comparison is to see whether it is worth the extra effort for me to grow in coco as opposed to soil. I want to give both plants the best chance and see which one comes out better. This is why they have different shaped pots and medium specific nutes. I realise there could be a difference in seeds but as its an auto i have no choice cos i cant get clones. Anyway i hope you enjoy the grow:Sharing One:f

im sub`ed for yah show buddy :Sharing One:

GO COCO! :coffee2:

Day 5 today for NL X BB and Royal Queen Jack Herer Recieved its first feed after the initial pre planting water. The nutrients i used basically followed the light canna shedule. I know that sounds pretty strong for an auto but, I have this same plant in soil and it has no problems taking nutes, it is currently recieving canna's maximum recomendations with cal mag, and silicone. I wish I started feeding it earlier. The mix went in at 350 ppm hanna and a ph of 5.8. Only two drops of ph down in 10litres of water:grin:. I just hope Jack Herer can hope. Cheers for reading. Top left is rqjh and the other two are nlxbb

NL X BB Royal Queen Jack Herer

Day 6 for my two new coco plants. The Jack Herer has something going on with its leaves, not sure what but any ideas would be welcome. It doesnt seem to have affected its growth rate, but could do in the future i guess. They are being watered once a day now, temps during the day are 28 - 29 celcius so they do dry quite quickly. I am watering them at cannas recommended light doseage plus cal mag and silicate. ph is 5.8. Enjoy the pics and thanks for reading :peace::smoke:

Hi Kylie

Canna's light dosage is meant for Photoperiods - it's too strong for an Auto seedling at this stage.
You're using the Canna Coco Profession Plus right?

I think 350 ppm is a touch on the low side. I would up it to 500-600, even at this early stage.

What PPM meter do you have, Blue labs? Hanna?
Take a look at this for PPM conversion http://www.dutchmaster.com.au/?language=english&page=growers_guide&topic=ppm_ec_cf_conversion

Canna Recommend that their Canna Coco Professional Plus should not be watered below 0.8EC. Doing so could set you back a couple of weeks.

I'd drop the cal mag and silicate at this stage too.

Hi blue, my ppm is hanna and i am putting it in at 450 ppm ph 5.8. I have a NLXBB in soil and it can take all the nutes i give it, so i thought it should be ok hopefully???. I am using canna coco but not the professional plus. Does this make a difference ec wise? Will drop cal mag and silicate, cheers for replying:Sharing One:

Hi kylie - i just scoured the canna us site for this

Never use plain water. Even when you think you need to leach the container, do so at 600 ppm nutrients or at 0.8 EC.

I know it's in my other coco help thread - but this is copied and paste from the people who make it.

You may need to sign up to see the questions (not sure) - there's some great reading in there.
