Thought it may be a good idea to compare original vs new versions of songs.

When i say new it doesn't have to be 21st century, just a later version.

I'll start off with the famous 'The First Time Ever I saw Your Face'.

Roberta Flack version (which is gorgeous) :

Original version (not even the original since her husband sang i first but i cant find his version) and i like this because i'm a Celt so i'm biased ;+} But i find this one so much more magical, even though it's less 'soulful', in modern terms :

and here's her live, in a lower key and a bit older :

Look I am not a you tuber, as we have restrictions on data here in the middle of the woods. But if you want I am sure someone could post them for me.

But I like the later version of Jimi Hendrix singing, " All along the watchtower" much more than the original sung and written by Bob Dylan. The U2 version is OK, but not great. Now I have heard many versions of this song, and even a christion rendition with altered lyrics. But Jimi's version is the Stick.

Nice Thread

YES! My favorite Hendrix tune also! I had tickets to see him that I bought three days before he died........never got to see him

Oh man, that sucks. I had the same deal with Bo Diddley, not quite on the same level I know lol
