there are two cracks in my stem. one starts from the dirt and goes about a half inch to an inch up. The other is about half way up that crack on another side of the stem that runs about a quarter of an inch to a half inch up. Any ideas. could it be a pest problem. i keep finding a gnat or two in there every coulple of days. i do have a solid two inches of dry perlite covering the soil to keep them from laying eggs. gonna put a bug zapper in there very soon

also the stem itself is kinda brown but inside the cracks it is green. probably doesnt help but kinda freaking me out

pictures dont even come close to picking up the cracks. but if it will help i will post some pictures

Sounds like a strange one to me. Pics will help us out!

How rough are you with them?

You should wire tie the cracks closed, most important you do that immediately. More info also required. Is she flowering/vegging also indoor/outdoor?

she is indoor about three to four weeks into vegging. and how would i go about wire tieing it. the cracks arent that big or deep. im not that rough with them. they havent even had a fan on them until two days ago. i noticed the cracks about a week and a half ago.

Thought they mite have been bad from the way I read your post.

Need pics man!

first one is my plant about a little over a week ago right after i noticed the cracks. i went ahead and topped it anyways. the second one is from today. only 7 to 9 days difference. its pretty unbelievable how fast it took off. and the third is a close up on what the first four leaves that grew after i topped it looked like. they are coming through. the other 20 or so leaves thats shes grown after are beautiful. any thoughts would be great. oh and the leaves on the right are dark from the shadow of the light not color.

im going to post a pic of the cracked stem as soon as i change out the perlite on the top soil. my camera keeps adjusting to the light being reflected from all the white. i just looked at it tonight and either it is getting worse or i didnt realize how bad it was. one is very long. my plants not that tall but one of the cracks runs almost from top to bottom. i also noticed that the stem is really thin. i have another plant that i started at the same time that was looking runty. its still a little shorter but the stem is way thicker and the branches are way longer. plus the leaves on my other one are all flat and perfect. except for the first two. like i said it started out rough. actually heres a pic.IMG_20110712_165136.jpg
