Hi folks, I intro’ed myself a while back. Cloning was my favorite method back when I did this kind of thing. The autos got my attention because it seemed a short cut to getting where I like to be, in the buds. It’s going to take some time to get used to all the foliage again from all the great pictures I have seen here as I just fall in love with straight up solid bud with none of the bush.
Crash and burn! From my first seeds I only have one Think Different that survived out of 7 TD and all 5 Ruderalis Indica died from a sort of root rot on my first run. All I can figure is that distilled water and Rhizotonic are not a good idea when sprouting seeds. In my day, we never pre started seeds. Pick the best, put them in a pea pod and use spring water and never fail. What you see in these pictures are from my second run (which is why half of my pails are empty waiting for new seeds) which have done well for what they are. Weak looking seeds produce weak looking plants, at least at first. I have 10 plants started. 2 pails have 2 plants each as they are RI auto regular (looking for at least one healthy male). All those RI seeds were perfect looking and all 10 came to life (but the first 5 died off in the first crash). You can see how full of life they are. I can see this in a seed before they burst out. I swear, even after 20+ years, they talk to me like they used to. One plant is a TD that survived and is stunted but I believe that it will really come on strong. It appears to have some weird issues but I believe it’s from the shock it went through to live and had to be subjected to H202 (I’ll post pictures of the failed crop and you can see the one that survived). I also had to throw together a DWC system for it so as not to take a chance on contamination.
Also looking stunted are the Star Ryder that is not from DP. All those seeds looked like bird seeds and out of 5, 3 came up. The smallest one you see here is the one that I gave a few extra days before I gave up hope on the 3 that didn’t sprout. And one “free” sugar mango ryder fem auto.
These are under a 300wt LED and a 1000wt hybrid MH/HPS. This LED is a kick ass lamp and the plants under that side are far happier then the HID side which blows my mind but makes me a happy man. The people that asked me to test this bulb are ecstatic and we are adding another and going to lower the HID to a 600wt to reduce the heat. The new LED will have IR added to the spectrum because the plants getting both types of light are actually the happiest and after looking at the spectrums, only the IR is missing from the LED. You guys that listen to the advertising hype about different LED will be able to take a lesson from this grow. Just for fun, the LED is producing 64K LUX at 75cm and the HID (which was my personal favorite for doing well but is now out of the running) is producing 60K LUX at 75cm. now to understand this, understand that the HID is producing a little less “total” visible light spread across the spectrum. The LED is producing a little more visible light, BUT it is only using 4 different nm ranges which means that they are producing 3-5 times the amount of reds and blues that the HID is producing. There is a whole lot more I would like to share about the lighting and "cheap China crap" from what I have read on some of the threads here but this is getting long and maybe should have its own thread.
I’ll fill in the grow room details and such as I go along here. Great place to be. Some really knowledgeable people here with autos that are willing to help in a manner that is respectable. As an old guy, I like that
